ehhhhhhh ?? rose seems your 6 replies have gone

very suspicious indeed..............................

Hi Rose -i have all six month bitches and Fluke -Time-Waterford-all break together so if i never run them out of the break i would never race --the only time i have encountered any adverse effects was with thier first break when running them straight away after breaking they bruised somewhat in the groin area-i think all bitches differ and you must do what you think with regards to thier welfare-but as you must be well aware a season is not an illness--and how would a wild dog survive if it was not running with the pack---common sense must be the answer you require --take it out let it off its lead if it runs then its ok to do so ==they are not daft--if it dont want to run it wont.

steve

ps. Yes ---it does slow them down --to the other question

But if they were in the wild and running with the pack, they wouldnt be running so fast and the rest of the pack would be looking after them so they wouldnt have to run to catch food??!!??

Thats what i think any how.....

As steve has said a season is not an illness or injury so it shouldnt prove harmfull to a bitch to run when first out, however I have both six monthly and yearly breakers I feel that the six monthly breakers need to come back when straight out of season while our yearly bitches need more time to return to racing, they are all a bit slower when returning, the six monthly bitches being the faster to come back to fitness, they have never ran in a pack so dont rely on anyone else to get the lure for them.

years ago when i was racing i used to take my bitch strait back to racing after a season but never did any good in the open circuit till John & Cliff Dolan told me to rest her for 12 weeks which i did and never looked back.

I TRIED UPTOWN GIRL AT 6 WEEKS AND SHE WAS ABOUT 6 TO 8 YARDS SLOWER ON THE BENDS, AND AGAIN AT WEEK 9 AND SHE WAS STILL SLOW, BUT AT 11 WEEKS SHE WAS FLYING... ALL OF THEM DIFFER, TRAIL AND ERROR I THINK....

Yep it depends on the bitch ...........2 of my lot show no change, whilst another one softens sooooo much that even her ligaments soften causing toe etc ....problems, and my other 2 go very flat and flabby for 12 weeks ...........

All my bitch's are rested during and after a season because that is what we have been adviced to do over the years, so are brought back after 13 weeks, we let them run about off the lead but do not put them behind a lure, but like some one else has said if you have 6 monthly bitch's you hardly get any racing out of them so it is each to their own what they do

All my bitch's apart from one are given the full 13 weeks rest from racing, which made it hard as grace is a 5 monthly bitch and is flat the full 13 weeks , but all are free run and walked through out...blue goblin how ever went flat 4 weeks before she broke and came back running well after the blood had stopped, she went flat for 1 week at 9 weeks out.... all bitch's are different and if you do race them watch for bruising, soreness and swelling around the nipple areas

As is said previously, all bitches differ but we tend to start back after bleeding has stopped until the milk comes through and then resume at 12 weeks.

Bitches given Epsom Salts gets the milk through quicker (once you notice the nipples getting full start on the Epsom Salts) so racing can resume once the milk has stopped. Thats a little tip from a big greyhound trainer.

Also there are some extremely safe suppressants on the market now (will find out the name) if your bitch comes into season at a really inconvenient time i.e if their racing season is in full swing. Our Skippy has just been supressed after grading in at Brough Park, so a season now is just real bad timing!
