Sorry to report the passing of Melanie Deerfoot (Holmes). She was very well known here & abroad with her Borzois & Whippets. Her prefix was Deerfoot, & apears in many of the dogs here.

Thanks for letting us know. I did not know her well, but we had Borzois from the same litter and her Whippets are in my dogs' pedigree.

RIP Melanie

All

Just to let you know of the sad passing of a very special lady, Melanie Deerfoot. She has been described as "a real character of the breed and always had whippets at heart. She has had some beautiful dogs." Another... "The dog world loses another great "dog" person"

I have only known Melanie for a short time and I found her to be very special, always with a smile, incredibly knowlegable and very supportive and just a downright nice lady with a quirky sense of humour and a good eye for a dog.

I understand that her interest in the dog fancy was not only in Whippets, but also Borzoi and Irish Setters. In latter life, her close companion was a gorgeous little Papillon "Squizzy".

For those in Oz who would like to pay their last respects and celebrate the life of such a great lady.... the funeral arrangements are:

Wednesday 21/05/08...2:00 p.m.

North Chapel

Pinegrove, Minchinbury, NSW

Thankyou to Stephen Evans of Mistraka Borzois for posting the sad news of Melanie's passing on the Oz Show list

Regards

Anne-Marie Curran

Oh I'm very sorry to hear the news of Melanie's passing. RIP dear lady.

I've never met Melanie but yes her quirky reputation preceeded her.

She bred a bitch called Deerfoot Cameo Cabaret - who I only ever saw in one photo but have long admired and Pat Adam often said that this was the best bitch that Trex (Denhills Deligate) ever sired.

So saddened to read of Melanie's passing.

Melanie sent me a beautiful whippet she bred in late 1984 Deerfoor Run Wild who sired my first Whipridge litter.

In the late 80's Melanie & her partner were my hosts during my Easter trip to Sydney Royal and the Whippet Club show, I had a thoroughly wonderful time and their hospitality was second to none.

A wonderful lady who will be truly missed.
