My friends bitch Bonnie was due to have pups this week. She went into labour Friday afternoon but had to go to the vet eventually as she couldnt get the first pup out. She gave birth to a singleton pup at the vets who was not a surviver so she went home alone.
Once she got home she was frantic. She searched high and low for her pup, under cushions, all around the garden, in all the beds. She wouldnt eat and she was crying and howling all night. It was heart wrenching by all accounts.
We decided to try her with one of Hatties pups so she was brought over and we put her in a box with Tank the biggest blue dog pup who is always hungry and is fair draining Hattie of milk. She immediately lay down and when we put him at her side he immediately latched on to drink. I cant describe the expression on Bonnies face. All the anxiety went, she stopped shaking and lay will her head between her front paws with a deep sigh.
When Jo got her home and was takinh her through to the bedroom where she would have been with her new pups she growled at the other dogs. Once she got him to herself he is now the most washed, cleanist pup in the UK. She wont leave his side, and she ate a big tea. She cant quite understand why this new puppy wants to interact with her alreday though
Hattie has reached the stage where she only goes in to feed and clean the pups.
She is bit laid back with her litters or this would not have been possible to do and it wouldnt always work. Bonnie has always been one of those bitches who will try to steal a litter or will take over from a bitch when the bitch has had enough of their litter so it was a calculated risk worth taking.
