Hi there can anyone give me any ideas on how to prevent sandburns

Yes Hubby says only run on grass :- "

Really he says once daily dip in a solution of potassium permanganate

Buy from an old fashioned chemist and are grains in a small pot which turn mauve in water( will colour white dogs )

Dip feet in as said daily for a week it should help.

Is also very good to stop bleeding if you cut a nail too short just dampen the end of a cotton bud dip in pot and lace on nail ( stings )

lillibet

We used to use on all our dogs in fact it was very common to see whippets with brown socks - where the potassium permanganate had stained there legs - somenthing you dont see now - ok ok times have moved on i here you all saying but it was my mum and dad that told me about it :- " :- "

Hi Joyce, if you can't get hold of potassium permanganate give me a shout

Yes, more so on our coursing dogs, but on the odd occasion on my bend dogs

We use potassium permanganate also ...had bally spots feet in it over the past few months...she had to have her stoppers removed a couple of months ago and the scars are quite bad

Slightly related question - I have a young whippet bitch and taking her to the beach the other day a local dog man said not to take whippets on sand as it will give them hare feet -

I quess it is just an OW's tale but I am interested in any comments

If you give no road work and only free run on soft surfaces some people reckon the feet don't tighten up correctly ........Hare feet on the back are actually correct for a working dog IMO and tight cat feet on the front .....
