thought id start this one up again as the kickboard one re-appereared lo

my personal opinion on sandpit finishes, i dont like them i know some people say they think they r safer i dont think so. especially if your dog isnt used to them. ive had a dog pull up when he saw a sandpit with a look of shock . the sand has to be checked to make sure theres no stones etc in it, then u cud get sand in their eyes on their feet etc etc . i much prefer a grass finish.

wot does your club have? i think all of them in the north east & north yorks have grass finishes now as do scotland.

I certainly think a good sandpit finish is far safer than a grass finish, both must be checked over for objects that should not be there. I have yet to see a dog skin its stoppers on a sand pit finish and i also agree that if a dog is not used to such a finish it does come as a shock to them and i remember one of Ricky's dogs pulling up short in Devon to avoid the sand pit, but after a couple of runs they appear to cope very well.

I like the sand pit :D

I remember at Devon giving Jed (Pay Back) a hand slip over 50yds to John, just to let him run through the sand pit :D He did okay and ran along the sand, he went on to win at Devon that year

George's Choice ran right through the sand pit and jumped over the fence  , but he won that year too  Got it all on video :D

if sand pits are safer for the dog,s then all the tracks should have them ,,,,,,

i personally dint think they r safer they might not hurt their stoppers but wot about sand burn? (w00t) i also dont think u cud have them @ every track as some r @ sports centres like bigges maine in wallsend wudnt b allowed to have one. just my opinion though

(w00t) They also make you dog dirty ..lol

No i dont like them

Never seen a dog finish in a sand pit and come out with sand burns, only seen sand burns from racing on sand tracks.

I agree that all tracks are not able to have sand pit finishes installed.

IMO i would sooner have a dog finish into a sand pit, and my dogs are always showered down after a race meeting so coloured sand or grass stain does wash off.

especially in the wet lol

IMO dogs can get hurt no matter what when pulling up at the end of a race, i dont mind finishing in sand or on grass with my dog but gotta say our Boo always gets a sand burn on one of her elbows when finishing in sand..so john i'll show ya your first dog with a sand burn after a sand pit finish haha (w00t)

if all tracks had a sandpit finish then fine  but if you school your pups on a track without one i found when racing on a track with a sand finish i found my dogs tend to pull up :( it would be great if all tracks had em but a lot of councils wont allow a pit to be put in :)

Agree Gary, best to race at a sand pit track afore you open race at one,

Grass finish is ok if well watered IMO but i race on both types and i prefer the sand finish, dogs wont say what they prefer.
