i think that some dogs are at an advantage because off the set up off there kickboards..as you often see same size dogs in a race, but there boards are very diffrent..and often dont trap quite as well because of it.....and diffrent venues can create a problem , with trap sizes varying a little,..would it not be evenly fair to all dogs if they ran off flat rubber mats...could this be a rule improvised for the bigger dogs, i.e the scratch classes..

NOoooo please not this sh*t again

have you been digging through the archives again Maurice youve got too much time on your hands

surely its down to the owners to get a kickboard that suits their dog

as for being fairer running from a flat rubber mat someone is bound to have a better grip on theirs than he or she has

as for often seeing the same size dogs in a race never seen many the size of yours

You should of put another choice to your poll, that being the owners decision.

I don't think any owner would stick any old kickboard in with their dog, especially in scratch racing where it probably counts more than in any other racing format. So I strongly doubt that an experienced dog missing the lids has anything to do with the wrong type of board being used and it's more likely that the variations in traps themselves is the issue.

Some may think these dogs are at an advantage but then I think a bigger dog has an advantage over a smaller dog on the bends but I still run with them. ;)

I would have thought that there were a great many things that people do (legally (w00t) ) to try and gain a few inches for their dogs. Isn't that part of the challenge. Kickboards is just one part of that, it's a sport, it's never going to be completely equal :(

well said Chris even the human sprinters adjust their starting blocks to suit them there not all the same

wouldn't mind betting the ones who complain about the use of kickboards are the ones who borrow someone elses because the dog the board belongs to is a good trapper rather than take the time to study the actions of their own dogs trapping abillities and needs

Or like me you have to borrow someone elses 'cos you've left yours somewhere  , saying that even then I look for a board similar in size and shape to my own (lucky for me quite a few copied my kickboard for their own dogs) - even found one of my missing boards with a new "paint job" had made it's way under the back feet of another dog  .

leave well alone Maurice u only do the bends theres a lot who think thats not right so before you bite your own arsse think again :p ITS SIMPLE IF YOU DONT LIKE EM DONT USE EM or you could consider getting a yard per pounder bet u would want boards then ey m8 :p

I made my kickboard with its own floor to cover the whole part the dog uses --the reason is i dont like traps that are full of snot/slaver and other germs that some dogs cough up whilst in the traps and i dont allow others to use my kickboard for the same reason---lots have asked if they can use mine but the answer is usually NO!Sorry ---i think there are enough ways to pick up unwanted germs without this --there must be loads on the old bits of carpet ect ---bet there arn't many that disinfect there kickboards on a regular basis---as i do---

thats all i am saying on this taboo subject-------------SCAREY!!!!!!!!!!!

fancy Maurice wanting NEW RULES!!!!!!!!!that must be a first!!!!short memory

Steve

SCRATCH RACING IS GREAT AT THE PRESENT AND I AM SURE IS GOING TO GET BETTER AND I DONT SEE ANY REASON WHY WE SHOULD BE LOOKING TO CHANGE ANYTHING.

ok gary, keep the boards, it was just a suggestion, people are so touchy on here,

and as for just running the bends, and your people complaining about it,

can you tell me why it has just become an issue, considering that i have only done the bends now for 12 years, apart from training pups....and not just because my dog is big....if he was a complete shower off s--t people would not be saying anything the sort about my dog. .. always the fu----ng same.

and as for the skit from weathergirls regarding the size of my dog, there has being quite a few dogs the weight of my dog, i did not expect him to go over 50lb when i got him, as he was not the largest pup in the litter,.. and he was 25%whippet.just like some off the 40lb sc racers...and anyway just cos a dog is big, dont make it any better.. loads off 40lbers over the years have just been as good as any no limit.. so stop digging at a dog because off its size

Morris what weight is your dog now ...

Have you been racing over the summer if so hows he doing , bet your looking forward to the bend season kicking off

always backed the big dogs as you know Maurice :- " but i told u you would be biting your own arsse m8 :- " i never had a problem with whatever racing folks choose i simply said there are those that do moan about it :- " your always first to say leave the scratch alone then come on with a suggestion thats gonna give certain people bullets to shoot you with (w00t) :)

maurice i got told the dog was running against the greyhounds at highgate i bet they don,t allow the use of kickboards but thats a different sport isin,t it. the next thing is stop using front boards [if a thing isn,t broken leave it alone] you use a kickboard on tiger ellie and use to use a one on uptown bear so what,s the difference

yes jeffb, he has had a handful of runs at highgate , about 6 in 5 months, just to keep him going, but not enough to keep him fit mate..and regarding the kickboards, well it was just a sugestion, but i dont mind using them, its just that they are a bit of a pain , carrying them about and setting them up..thats all..

Bloody hell Maurice, you've gone and done now
