SCARLETT

**UPDATED: AUGUST 2013**

Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK.

Key Points: Friendly, sensitive, insecure at times, loving with her people, bit wary of children, grand with all other dogs – can take or leave them, adores walks, doesn’t pull, fabulous in the car, housetrained, home savvy.

The beautiful Scarlett is a 7 year old greyhound girl who could really do with some good fortune in her life.

She spent the first many years of her life kennelled in a back garden before coming to us and getting homed 2 years ago. Now unfortunately Scarlett has come back to us to find a new home after becoming grumbly over her space when sleeping in her bed. This dear lady just needs a break and someone who understands her insecurities.

When Scarlett first arrived to us she had significant hair loss on the thighs with scabs from pressure sores from lying on bare concrete flooring. Her bald patches have since been covered over with silky soft fur and she is now in fabulous condition. Her healthy black coat gleams in the sun. Scarlett is a petite wee girl at just 25” to the shoulder.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Sensitive, loving, clever girl always thinking, independent, forms a gradual bond.

Scarlett has left her previous home and is now in foster with us. She is showing herself to be a sensitive wee girl who is very attune to people. She is a ‘quiet thinker’ and assesses situations before partaking, but that doesn’t make her unaffectionate by any means. She is friendly and mannerly with people, just needs a few moments to take in the situation to know how to react. If approached too quickly or forcefully, she can become insecure and then defensive. This lady is very aware of people’s emotions, and needs a human who understands her insecurities and doesn’t rush or pressure her into situations where she may be uncomfortable. This includes children, who can make Scarlett uncomfortable because, again, they can unknowingly push her into situations where she isn’t yet comfortable. When the trust develops, Scarlett is a wonderful little lady who gives her love very sweetly.

Scarlett also has an independent streak and doesn’t see the point in puppyish things like chasing a ball. She is very content to flake out in the sun and let the world go by.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Housetrained, home savvy, well behaved and mannerly, loves her food, sharing with another dog.

Scarlett is very used to living in a home and has no problem at all with the basics. She is housetrained and ok to be left alone for short periods of time. She is currently sharing her home with another houndy friend and they are indeed now friends after some initial grumbling on Scarlett’s part. Again these grumbles were stemming from insecurity, and once Scarlett felt safe in her new foster home, knowing her position in things, she settled down and now both dogs do everything together.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Can take or leave other dogs, very mannerly with them.

Scarlett is grand with other dogs but often doesn’t appear to be overly excited about them. She can take or leave them. On walks, Scarlett accepts other dogs just fine and will give the usual greeting sniffs but happily ignore them from then on. She is fine with all dogs large and small.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks to heel, rarely pulls, loves the car.

Scarlett really loves her walks and adores the car, once she learned how to jump into it that is! She walks like a dream on the lead and will happily potter everywhere her human does. Scarlett will need a lot of bonding and recall work before she can be let offlead safety, and should never be let offlead near public roads or livestock. Her foster mum is currently working on this with Scarlett and it is progressing along as their bond grows.

~ Where Can I Live? ~

As mentioned, Scarlett is a very sensitive girlie who can easily become insecure in herself. As such she really needs an understanding, experienced home who won't push her too much but keep her improving all the same. Perhaps there's someone out there who would like a little project in their pooch, as Scarlett has fabulous potential to get over her issue with the right kind of gentle guidance and bonding work.

Currently Scarlett is not suitable to live with young children as they may not read the signs she gives when she’s uncomfortable, thus making her react. She would be fine in a quieter home with teenagers who, again, know not to push her too far. She can take or leave other dogs and so can live with another quiet pooch or on her own.

~ Where Am I? ~

Scarlett is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Scarlett is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

Scarlett is still looking for her forever home. Please consider this lovely lady if you have some basic canine experience and/or would like a doggie project to work on and help grow. Scarlett is a bit rough around the edges but she still deserves a loving home to call her own, she just needs a bit of understanding and gentle guidance.
