What are, if any, the penalties when showing a dog which has a scar(s)?

There shouldn't be any. And I've seen whippets get placed very highly with bad scars. Because of the nature of the whippet and what they were bred for they WILL get scars. Conformation is what they should be judged on - not cosmetics.

Yes, I was quite worried about this recently as Zephyr has had two operations and has some scarring, but I have been told it shouldn't make any difference, as long as it whatever he had done doesn't affect his movement (which it doesn't).

Funnily enough, one person said that if a whippet had NO scars - it probably hadn't had a nice life, as it probably had never been off the lead!!! :lol:

Jill, in January this year my Dino won Reserve in Show with an open wound on his side! His sister had grabbed him in play the day before and opened him up. He had a thumbprint sized "hole" on his off show side. It wasn't affecting his performance at all and I decided to show him anyway but I told the judge about it before he rubbed his hands over it. I did not expect to win but blow me down he took out the 2nd top award.

( I might just add that we were doing these shows in transit on our journey home from Brisbane and were already at the show anyhow. Had the wound happened at home I may not have taken Dino to the show.)
