I particularly thought of racing whippets when I saw a notice about this seminar, organised by the Kennel Club, but it is also relevant to other activities and other breeds (including mixed breeds)

‘A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO THE CANINE ATHLETE’
Dog owners with an interest in canine sports are invited to attend a seminar which will explore how to prepare your dog for active sports and how to treat and prevent possible injuries.
The seminar, ‘A Scientific Approach to the Canine Athlete’, will take place on Sunday 15 March 2009 at the Kennel Club Building, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire CV8 2LZ.
The event follows a successful seminar held in February 2008 and will be of interest to people who attended that event and newcomers alike. The seminar will include presentations and practical sessions on the following subjects:
The Veterinary Perspective on discipline specific training and rehabilitation.
Gait Analysis and Conformation
Canine Massage Therapy
McTimoney Chiropractic
Open forum / Q&A session
Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club spokesperson, said: “Canine sports, such as agility, are a great way to keep your dogs fit and healthy and to develop a bond between dog and owner. All dogs should be fit enough to perform the original function for which they were bred, which is central to our Fit For Function: Fit For Life campaign, and canine sports are a great way for dogs to demonstrate these original instincts.
“However, it is also critical that dog owners ensure that their dogs are well prepared to take part in these fun sports, in order to protect their health and wellbeing. This seminar provides invaluable insights into how to care for your dog as it participates in a range of canine sports and we would encourage anybody with an interest in this area to come along.”
Tickets cost £70.00, which includes VAT, all refreshments, buffet lunch, a delegate’s pack and presentation handouts.
An application form for the seminar can be downloaded from the Kennel Club website www.thekennelclub.org.uk with the closing date for entries being the 20 February 2009. For further information or if you are interested in having a trade stand presence, please contact Zoe Tharmasingam on zoe.tharmasingam@thekennelclub.org.uk or Tel: 0870 606 6750 (Ext 313).
