This morning we had Scrumpys appointment with the behaviourist to try & sort out her problems with noise phobia. The session lasted for three & a half hours & we went over her whole life from the day we got her up to now. Very thorough. I won't even attempt to explain it all but I can now see that there will probably be a solution to the problems we are having. It's going to be a long, slow process & sadly her agility career will be on hold until she's back to normal but that's a small price to pay to have a happy lurcher back again :b

I was really impressed with the advice I was given & we have "homework " to do on a daily basis. Walks are also going to be approached in a totally different way so hopefully before long Scrumpy will forget that she is scared of certain noises & traffic etc.

I know it's not going to be a quick fix & my daily routine will have to change to fit in with the training programme but at least I'm now a lot more hopeful than I was yesterday.

We will be using a clicker a lot, I've not used one before but am now wearing one around my neck constantly....the new "must have" accessory for the well dressed woman about town

I'm keeping a diary too so I can look back in a few months time & see how much we've improved  (hopefully)

I hope she soon feels a lot happier about life & I hope we can do agility again next year but at the end of the day I just want a happy relaxed Scrumpy.

I'm really glad the session went well and you are feeling positive about it all. It sounds as though it was very thorough.

Lots of luck following the new regime. I hope you'll keep us posted on how it goes :luck:

One week on....

We've been following our therapy programme for a week now, most of that has been spent in Anglesey in a very very quiet field (full of rabbits (w00t) ). Scrumpy has been wearing her DAP soaked bandana(duster :- " ) every waking moment & she gets a "click & treat" whenever she does something brave, e.g. if she doesn't react to something scary. It's all a bit back to front really as I tend to notice more when she does react rather than when she doesn't

We've had helicopters, low flying jets & tractors this week, she totally ignored all these :) lots of treats. However, one car going past at about 5 miles an hour had her quaking & trembling again :(

It's going to be a long process I think

We are not able to walk to the local park, instead I have to drive there(2 minutes) or drive somewhere else instead so she doesn't have to walk along that stretch of road at all.

I'm waiting for the behaviourist to get back to me with some homoeopathic remedies as I'm not at all keen on Scrumpy being on valium & other drugs for the next 12 months.

It certainly sounds like your both going in the right direction  All the very best of luck :luck: with the programme
