I took the 3 dogs out as usual this morning & as we got through the park gates Rafferty stopped for a wee....boys eh? :- " As I was waiting for him to finish i noticed Scrumpy leap in the air (still on lead), all 4 feet off the ground, I think the wind blew a bin bag across & made her jump :(

We got further into the park & I let them off lead, Scrumpy normally runs around like a crazy thing but this morning she was obviously not comfortable & was walking strangely. She was throwing both hind legs out sideways & limping slightly, but it was hard to tell which hind led she was favouring. All very odd

Anyway, I left the other 2 dogs with my friend & took Scrumps back home. When I got back from the walk later she seemed better but still not 100% on her back legs.

I had a look & there is nothing stuck in her pads/paws but I have noticed that her right hind paw is very sore. The skin seems to be peeling off the pad in places. I've put some vaseline & some Aloe Vera gel on it but I don't know if this is anything to do with her being slightly un-coordinated theis morning. It's all a bit odd.

If she still looks wrong tomorrow I'll have her to the vets but just wondered if anyone has had anything similar with their dog.

I've had this type of thing many times, and it's normally when they've trodden on stinging nettles. Two of mine have gone completely lame before, where they wouldn't put their feet down at all. Then they come in and chew the feet because they itch, and sometimes have taken all the skin off a pad, and made it sore.

I normally put some anti itch type cream on the foot, and bandage lightly for a few hours - once the itch has gone, they forget very quickly - but if they carry on chewing their feet, they itch more, and then they chew some more  bit of a vicious cirlcle.

Nettles would make me jump in the air too

Hope it was nettles, 'cos she will be feeling better very soon  Good luck :luck: with her

Maybe Savlon cream would sooth it and help the healing?

Was there any salt on the road? mine go like this if they walk on a salty path or road

Today Scrumpy is walking ok but the skin on the pads of her right hind foot looks very sore. There are no nettles in that bit of the park but I'd not thought about salt on the road. It does look as tho she's trodden in something caustic as the top layer of skin on her pad seems to be peeling off & leaving new soft pink skin underneath :(

It doesn't seem to be bothering her too much & she only licks it when I mess with it :- " I'm putting Aloe Vera gel on but am not sure if I should be taking her out for walks or not till it's hardened up again.

ive heard some fantastic results from this ointment.its used in horses, zoos etc etc

i know lady on my terrier site said it had saved a jack russells life that the vet had despaired of and was going to pts.

That looks like very good stuff Kris. Scrumpys pad still looks a bit ragged round the edges but isn't causing her any problems, she's back to her normal :teehee: crazy self. I think she must have stepped in something a bit caustic & don't really believe it was connected to her wobblyness at all. I think that she must have pulled something when she jumped & it was coincidental that her pad was sore too.

But at least she's ok again now
