About a week ago I noticed that the skin on the pads of just one of Scrumpys feet was looking very sore & even seemed to be flaking off. She was slightly lame as well for a day. After a day or so of putting aloe vera gel on it, it seemed to be ok again. She has been running around as usual & not bothering with it.

I've kept an eye on it & the skin was cracked but otherwise seemed ok.

Today when we were training, she suddenly yelped & started limping again on the same foot. When I had a look, all the skin on the pad of one toe had peeled right back & was just hanging off. No bleeding at all but more like when you have sunburn & it starts to peel off.

When we got home I was able to trim the dead skin off with scissors, it didn't hurt her at all. The skin underneath is not sore looking but just looks like puppy pads  sort of new & paler than the rest of the skin. One other pad looked as tho the same thing has already happened but I don't know when.

It's really weird & I'm still wondering if she has stepped in something caustic. It's just as though she's shed the skin right off the pad.

It's only happened on one foot thank goodness. I'm really puzzled as I've never seen anything like it before.

Here is a pic, you can see how much lighter the skin is where it has peeled off some of the toes.

Anyone else experienced anything similar?

My dogs feet were 'raw' recently and he was quite sore and lame (and very cross about it). The only thing i can think that may have caused it was walking on the beach. The tide was in so we had to walk on the pebbles for about two hours. I think the combination of walking on the stones and in the sea water must have 'burnt' the skin on his feet. He does tend to have itchy skin. My other dog was perfectly ok - but then again she is a ruffty tuffty! The dog with the sore feet licked them for a few days and then was ok again. Putting anything on them would have been useless as he would have licked it right off and i would worry about him ingesting anything that would play havoc with his digestion etc. He was raging at being left behing while the other dog got out for short walks!

Hope your dog is back in action soon.
