I've heard a lot about Blues and Blacks being put down in the showring and how not many judges will pull out a blue/black over a fawn etc. I just wondered why this was? Is there some history behind it or is it just one of those 'fad' phases in judging where they seem to prefer another colour?

You might get some more replies if you put this in the showing section (Haven't looked to see if you've done that already - I'm a couple of weeks behind)

Dogs that arnt placed as highly as the others , are usually not as good a specimin sp) as the ones beating it , 8)

It USUALLY has nothing to do with colour , unfortunatley blacks/blues tend not to be as good quality( for showing ) as other colours . But when you do get a good black or blue they are really super :huggles: IMO

Are you doing a paper on whippets for your GCSE Amalthea  or trying to you decide what you want to do with it when you get one :D

That is true, but also it is often difficult to show solid blue or black to their best advantage, they very easily bland into the handler's clothing while the parti-colored stand out. And all breeds judges, being only human, go for what they are used to; if you come in the ring with something different it throws them. The blacks and blues are much more likely to be placed by breed specialists. That is the story at least here in OZ, where until quite recently only few coloured whippets were bred and rarely seen in the ring. In England the coloureds are probably not quite as rare as they are here. But there is no logical reason why the black or blue should be inferior to the other colours.

Then wear WHITE or Pale cloths . you cant use that excuse Im afraid . A solid `mucky` brindle blends into the background just as much if not more then a shiney black or Blue

, Blacks and blues here in the UK tend to be much finer boned than other colours , ok it may be an obtical illusion . This is of course just MY opinion , I have placed and given first prizes at a champ show to a black, so NO I am not colour biased at all :- " :huggles:

From the pics Ive seen of overseas whippets of these colours, they look to have the required bone ;) EG Tamara s girl SPICY ( who Ive seen in the flesh  )also Colins in Aus look to have good bone too  Im just talking about UK show whippets
