I've owned whippets for close on 15 years, but just as pets never showing/racing etc. I presently have Pippet, a gorgeous, intelligent, loyal but unregistered 4 year old brindle bitch. I would dearly love to try my hand at showing (did lots of showing with horses, so already got the bug) and thought I would ask for some tips here. Obviously I would need to buy a KC registered puppy or dog (would be just as happy with an adult), so where do I start looking? Do the judges prefer a particular type or colour? Pippet moves with quite a high hackney action which I believe is a no no. Obviously whichever dog I do end up getting will be a much loved member of our family, so if the showing side didn't work out it wouldn't be a major issue..... but it would be really nice to try :) Any suggestions or tips would be welcome

Well , a great place to start would be Crufts .

There you should see some of the best whippets in the uk , ( unfortuantely the best wont be in the whippet ring , as mine are being used again for the junior handlers from around the world in their finals competition ;) :clown: ) ;)

Other than that, there is a show at Staverley , nr Chesterfield a week on Sunday , lots of us will be there then to give advice . and will probably have more time for you than at Crufts

What colour do you like >? cos you are the one who has to live with it . No whippet is a bad colour  they are all lovely

Thanks for the reply and the welcome  Been hanging around for a while, I'm just really quiet :b I've been getting more and more broody with all the gorgeous puppy pics :teehee: I absolutely love fawns, brindles and parti colours. I'm going to try to make it to Crufts, but not sure if it will happen yet. I will keep an eye out for shows close-ish to me and try to get to them too. Your dogs are all stunning

They're addictive things these beasties aren't they?!

You could even start to show your unregistered girl at exemption shows, which are fun and friendly and good training ground for you - they're mostly in the summer months though - check out your local press.

Have we seen photo's of your present whippet? We love piccies :- "
