thank you jok .do sum show not accept them thou even iif you have permission and how do i go about getting permission from the kennel club sorry to sound so thick im new to all this showing stuff :D

No - all shows will accept her if you have permission from the KC. If you ring them up they can send you the relevant form to fill in. Obviously no need to do this yet as she's not speyed.

ok cool im bit worried thou what if i get her spayed and they dont give me permision ,do sum judges frown on bitches that are spayed thou ???sorry for the 20 questions :b

Do you still need permission? This is an extract from the KC Code of Ethics

Owners will agree without reservation that any veterinary surgeon performing an operation on any of their dogs which alters the natural conformation of the animal, may report such operation to the Kennel Club.

Does this not encompass speying and castration (or indeed 'fixing' cryptorchid dogs which seems to be a worryingly increasing phenomena)???

If you are spaying your bitch on medical grounds then the kennel club will sometimes grant premission. Those medical grounds are usually those that affect the overall health of a bitch and therefore spaying is deemed to improve the health of the dog. I know someone who had to have her bitched spayed due to some hormone problems the kennel club gave her permission to carry on showing. But i may be wrong.

Ermmmm,& how would anyone know if a bitch was spayed???

lets face it,would a judge be able to recognise whether a bitch has been speyed?

If said bitch is kept in top condition, apart from a possible thickening of her coat, who's going to know?

There, that'll open up a can of worms  :sweating: :D

You no longer need permission to show a speyed bitch / castrated dog, you just needs to send a letter to the KC to let them know it has been done. They will then send you a letter acknowledging they have it on record.

Yes but what about dogs that only had one testicle descended and had the other one surgically brought down?? A spayed bitch will have no impact on future generations but dogs that are not entire without surgical intervention????

At best, just showing them is cheating IMO and to use them at stud is downright unethical, especially if you do not tell prospective bitch owners the score. I also think that any Vet performing such operations, not for health reasons but to boost someone's ego, should be taken to task by their Professional body. Plus I can't see the Kennel Club being too happy about it either.

And I hope this does open up a can of worms!!!

Millie you are correct, when we rang the KC all we had to do was send a letter telling them of the spaying and giving them the name of the vet. A letter came straight back giving permission to show. As it happens we have never shown the particular bitch but as someone else said how would a judge know after the scar has healed and anyway have you ever seen a judge look underneath a bitch?

I don't show, although I do enjoy seeing with interest how everyone on K9 has done at shows. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the point of showing was for the benefit of the breed as a whole, and therefore dogs that were successful in the show ring hopefully pass on their good conformation, temperament etc to their progeny. :)

Hence a spayed bitch or castrated dog would not be of any value to the gene pool. :- "

 ooo my lord i think the boys will be off to the knacker cracker instead

IMO if you dont want the hassle of seperating dogs and bitches when the bitches are in season then why have both sexes.

IMO again speying and castrating should ONLY be done for medical reasons and not for conveneince.
