The words, sit and down, are 2 different commands in this household, how do you use them?

Same as Mad Murphy - OH gets a telling-off if he tells Jasper to sit down.

I don't use 'down' for jumping up, or getting off furniture - that's 'off'. I'm wondering now if there's room for confusion there, but maybe Jasper interprets it as 'four paws on the floor'.

"Sit" for us is sitting, i.e. hind legs folded, front legs not. Jimmy's good at it if there's a treat to be had. "Down" is lying down sphinx-like, and similarly he'll do that for a treat. "Off" is getting off things, like the furniture. Selective hearing on this as he's usually comfortable where he is ;)

Sit is sitting
Down is lying on the floor
Get down - when he's table surfing or jumping up. Basically means 4 paws on the floor
Drop - release whatever object is in the mouth
Off - get off the chair/sofa
