SKYMAN

**UPDATED: 29TH JUNE 2012**

Meet Skyman. He is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who’s racing career is now over. He is a lean, leggy boy with a very noble face and is very striking now that his coat has gotten a glossy shine to it.

~ Personality ~

Skyman is a real star and a bit of a ladies man! He loves getting some fuss and attention, and enjoys getting out to see the world too. Skyman is proving to be a wonderful character with just enough quirk to keep you entertained by his antics without being a handful. He loves to play and romp around and seems to be reliving his puppyhood now that he has his loving foster home.

~ In the Home ~

The lovely lively Skyman moved in to foster care about 2 weeks ago, and is coping splendidly with all the changes. Though he has never been in a home before, he quickly mastered his housetraining and has wonderful food manners around food. Though now relishing any opportunity to play, he is still respectful of both people and dogs and will only play with those who are willing. He is a lovely boy and is a very happy chappie.

Skyman is truly living the life now, and is making a point of enjoying himself to the max now that he is out of kennels. He makes his foster parents laugh on a daily basis with his playful gallumps around the garden, flinging around a toy and trying to cajole his foster siblings into playing along. He has also taken a shining to his foster parent’s paddling pool, and on sunny days will stand in the shallow water for ages, just relishing the feeling of water between his toes!

~ Other Animals ~

This gorgeous boy is very amiable with other dogs around his size, and is currently sharing his foster home with a weimeraner x and two other greyhounds (one of which is blind). Skyman has learned that the blind greyhound doesn’t like to play, and is very respectful when told off for trying. Skyman has very good dog skills and greatly enjoys interacting with them.

Skyman does, however, need more socialisation around very small dogs as it is clear he doesn’t yet fully realise they’re dogs and not just squeaky toys! He can get very excited when he sees small dogs, simply because he has never seen them before now. It’s clear that he does not yet know that dogs can come in small sizes, and so this issue will improve with time and lots of safe but positive socialisation with smallies. This socialisation has already started with his foster parents, and we hope to see improvements shortly. He is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Like most greyhounds, Skyman will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area a couple of times a week. Because he is currently making a point of reliving his playful puppy days, Skyman would do best in a home with a relatively large garden that he can romp around in for his ‘mad hour’.

Right now Skyman gets very happy and therefore overexcited when out on his walks, and does pull a bit on the lead when starting out. This should settle fairly quickly once he gets more used to all the attention and when he’s getting more opportunities to let off steam in a home environment. It is being worked on right now with our fosterers and he is already showing improvement.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Am I? ~

Skyman is currently in foster care in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Gorgeous Skyman is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Skyman, please visit our website’s KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK[/B] ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.
