Am getting a whippet dog puppy soon and already have 2 chihuahua girls. Would be interested to hear if anyone else has small dogs and whippets and how they get on together and how they were when they were first introduced.

I have noticed that lots of people have whippets and cats together which is quite reassuring as I also have a cat.

Lets hope they can all manage to be little o:)

I have no small dogs, but i do have a cat! My advice there is to be very careful with the introductions - keep puppy on a lead when they first meet so he doesn't learn that chasing cats is a great game!

My 2 whips are fine with my cat, but I would never leave the house with them in the same room - they are fine if I am within earshot but I just wouldn't want to risk and over-playful whippet with an under-amused cat and no referee!

Am sure someone will be along with small dog advice soon, but I know of quite a few households with whippets and italian greyhounds or yorkies so it has to be possible!

Good luck with your new addition - and you do know we will be needing pics don't you?

as you can see they get on, the whippets are very tollerant of our Chi who likes to try boss the pack, we have a Bichon as well and a cat (she keeps out of the way of the whippets)

Overall I think you shouldnt have too much to worry about

Yay :D thank you so much for posting this photo, you have reassured me so much!! It is lovely to see them all sitting happily together on the sofa. Love your chewie, my first boy Chipito looked just like yours. Will post lots of pics when he arrives.

My son's family have a JRT and he comes round and has walks

on the beach with the girls no problem :)

My mums three yorkies would like to kill the girls though

Hi,

We have seven whippets (two of whom are 10 week old puppies), three cats and one small chihuahua x called Scrappy. Scrappy is extremely tolerant of the pups, I think he is glad to have something smaller than himself for a change!! The puppies learnt very early on to RESPECT cats lol. None of the puppies would dare go anywhere near our two burmese cats but the farm cat, Basil just tends to keep out of the way :D

Our only problem is when we go for walks, Scrappy's little legs just cannot keep up

I have a whippet and a small Tibetan Spaniel - they adore each other - play a lot of the time - Bluebell does dive Bomb Daisy out in the field sometimes which Daisy finds a little unsettling - no harm ever done abd they're back to play fighting as soon as we get home

Middle photo is of Bluebell at only 4 months old - she's bigger now and daisy looks smaller
