SNOWBIRD
Snowbird is a young greyhound girl who just turned 2 last month. She was handed over to us as she wasn't fast enough for the track. She has a beautiful white and black coat that was sadly in appauling condition when she came to us, but after a good long soak in the bathtub she is now looking and smelling much better.
Snowbird is a real little character and is loved at the kennels. She has her loopy, high-spirited moments where she sprints around like a mad thing, then is content to lounge about in the sun for the afternoon. She is bursting to show the world how lovely she is and is going to be a cheeky little minx, sure to keep whomever adopts her well entertained!
Snowbird gets on good with the other greyhounds and loves to play. She's going to adore toys once she learns all about them. She also greatly enjoys getting fuss and attention. Now that she knows what cuddles are, she seeks them out and is fast learning how to ask for more!
This lovely lass has never been in a home before, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding during the first couple of weeks after adoption and allow her to settle in. It shouldnt take too long, however, before she's making the most of all the home comforts. Snowbird has not yet been tested with cats, but this will be carried out soon.
Snowbird is currently in kennels in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. She is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. We think whoever decides to adopt this beautiful little character certainly wont regret it!
**UPDATE 06/2010**
Snowbird got to spend a day out of the kennels recently, and took part in the Kerry Greyhound Connection annual jamboree in Kerry. She seemed to really enjoy her day out, and behaved very well with the noisy crowds and numerous dogs.
Snowbird is a delight to walk on the lead, and greatly enjoys being out and about with other dogs. She was around small dogs at the jamboree and behaved very well with them. She also wasn't bothered by the loud crowds of people around her and really seemed to relish all the attention she got.
Like most greyhounds, Snowbird will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also dont shed as much as other dog breeds such as retrievers or labradors, and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Snowbird, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our information pack and adoption questionnaire. Thanks!
