Dogs Trust figures now released
2008 - 6710 pts
2009 - 9310 pts
That is only to date so far this year. These figures are taken from local authority pounds and sadly only around 60% reply with the figures so in reality the number could be almost double.
Considering this is ONLY stray figures from local authorities and no other outlets it makes pretty depressing reading.

Each hour:
5 dogs are reunited with their owners
3 are taken to welfare organisations
1 is rehomed from the Local Authority kennels
2 are in kennels for their seven day holding period
1 dog is put to sleep
