Today was one of my afternoons down at the animal sanctuary where I go to help with the dogs. Myself & another lady took a couple of the dogs out for a walk, it was a lovely warm day & we had a nice walk & were on our way back along the canal towpath.
We'd already been out half an hour before with another 2 dogs & had seen a man sitting on the seat on the playing fields, he was obviously a bit worse for wear & had a dog with him, off lead...in fact he didn't even have a lead. Apparently he is a regular feature locally & is never seen without his can of cider in his hand
Anyway, we're coming along the fairly narrow towpath where it goes under the motorway & this bloke is now sitting on the edge of the path, nearest the waters edge. As we came up to him, his dog, a staffy cross, came towards us. Our dogs were on lead. his wasn't.
The dog came right up to the dog I was walking, Milo is a lovely big Rotty cross, a nice friendly dog
So this other dog walked right up to him, tail wagging, no warning & then just flew at his face
Poor Milo didn't know what had happened at first but then he quite understandably had a go back. So I'm pressed up against the wall, under the motorway with a huge angry Rotty on the end of the lead. The other stupid dog didn't back down at all.
I yelled at the drunken  to get hold of his dog & only then did he shift his drunken arse & pull his dog away.
His dog came off worse & was limping on a front leg afterwards
Once I'd got a safe distance away I called to him & asked was his dog ok but he never even checked her over, just went back to his can  muttering something about pitbulls
Luckily Milo was fine, just a bit shook up but I was so annoyed. He is a nice dog but if things like this happen it could make him become wary/aggressive of other dogs.
It really did spoil a nice walk. Just hope he doesn't make a habit of sitting there as we won't be able to avoid him. Unless he accidentally :- " slipped & fell in the canal, now wouldn't that be a shame.
