We have decided in the interest of the safety of the dogs that are/will be entered ........ we are postponing our open until later on in the year ........With the lack of rain and the current heat wave, in my opinion the ground will be in all probability too hard to run on .......Seeing how some dogs are run at the opens, Cotswolds do not want the responsibility of peoples dogs being injured

:- " And Magic has just got his passport! :- "

Still, better wait and be safe than rush it , ending up injured. :)

Hannah it seems entirely sensible, I have already had to restrict our dogs exercise due to ground conditions. The local cricket pitches here are already baked to concrete and with no let up expected in the next few months the ground can only get worse. Shame as I was looking forward to it but common sense has to be the order of the day.

Opps sorry Gav :b ......You'll have to enter him at Glos and Somerset :D .......I know what you mean Martin ......ALL of my lot free run all year ......We are lucky to have water meadows close by if the grounds hard, but even these are bone dry and cracking .....What is worrying is that our ground is normally one of the best around ......If there's no rain soon, I think my lot will be getting used to keeping their paws up on Sundays  .........

Also just thought I'd let you all know before the rumors circulate.........that at the end of this year Chris and myself will be standing down from the running of Cotswolds ......This hasn't been an easy decision as we have put in so much work into getting the club back on track ........We will still be there to support Cotswolds and as always it will be our main club and we'll still be on the committee, but we will need one or two people to take on the running of the club and paper work etc ....... so please feel free to offer help if you can  ....... Hannah.

Really sorry to hear you & Chris are standing down Hannah, :( but people dont see the work that goes into a club, they think your only there on a Sunday then thats it, (w00t) if only, :) I would like to wish you, Chris, Ben & all the Strike whippets :luck: for the future, maybe we"ll see you at more opens now.

Sorry that the Cotswold Open has been postponed but I can understand why you've done it. I've stopped free running my dogs down by the river because even there the ground is way too hard for them to run safely on it. At the moment the grass is staying green but on these closely mown sports fields I wonder how long that is going to last if we don't have rain soon.

No doubt it'll start to rain now that you've decided to cancel. :) What's the betting end of May and beginning of June will be really wet and we'll all be moaning about the ground being too wet and slippery. Anyone remember the 1st Gloucester open last year and us all wading around in ankle deep mud in the morning wondering if we were going to get our vans off the ground, Terry's new gazebo collapsed under the weight of the rain then the sun came out and dried us all off nicely.

Also sorry to read that you and Chris are standing down Hannah. You'll be very hard to replace but there is more to life than whippet racing (so I've been told  ).

Thanks for all the work you've put in with me & Supe Hannah & Chris - I don't blame you for having a rest from running the club to have more time to concentrate on your own dogs - Tink really should get out more and see more of her fans

You've done a good job it's time to have time for yourself.

will be sad to see you go you have worked hard. such a shame about the open though specially as the long range forcast at the weekend was for rain, rain and more rain. i understand the admin difficulties but couldn't the decision have been left til closer to the day to give the ground a fighting chance.

It is sooooo dry up there Lesley, and has been cracking since March, that we'd need more than a few days of rain ......With the lime stone draining so well, we'd need a good week or so of consistent rain to actually get the ground good enough to run on  .........
