Anyone have the results for the whippet classes at the southsea show today??

Will be posting a few pics on here a bit later - hopefully the owners won't mind that is. Well done to all who entered, looked a bit of stiff competition as there were quite a few beauties.

Best of Breed was Shoalingham Senator

Whippets produced a superb display of 42 dogs and an entry of 65 (Breed and Variety). There is a distinct possibility that this will be the last Southsea Show if that is the case it will be no fault of the whippet exhibitors who supported it magnificently, way and above any other breed over the two days.

Before I wrecked my knee I was planning on attending the show. After the hound show I was to worn out even to wonder down there.

I know Iam a lightweight. (w00t)

It would be a real shame if they scrap the show.

Perhaps some extra advertising would help them. :luck:

How did young Dylan get on?

Dylan is not 6 months old until 14th August but he went to watch, well actually he slept all day, I think it was the sea air, he was curled up in Sparky's cage next to his three English Springer buddies and we didn't get a peep out of him.

Sparky, for the first time in his career stood on the table to be examined. so the boy is progressing well. There were 15 in Sp Yearling and he wasn't placed but we're there and we're showing so we're secretly very relieved.

It would be a great shame if it was the last show, but I don't know what the answer is, I wonder if it's because it is run by The Council as opposed to a separate show organisation. Some of the show is so tacky and yet other parts are

great. The dog agility, like the dog show, is well run and they had a large crowd all day. We went in the flower tent and we pondered whether it would be easier to show spring onions than to show whippets !!!!

Yes, It is a shame that it will be the last show, but sadly its in the wrong place, for the type of show it is. I think if they had it in a more rural area, they'd probably get a better gate. Most country fairs/shows you go to, you can normally get in around 9am. We got over there for 915, thinking just that, but they said gates open at 10. 45 mins later, they wouldn't open the gates cos some idiot trader/show participant whatever, had blocked the fire exit with their cars. So, they finally opened at 1030. Why they didnt' just drag the car away I don't know - there were plenty of willing JCB's in attendance.

Re the whippies - I think the judges had a difficult job there. There were just so many lovely wips. Took loads of pics, but don't know who was who though.

Sorry I assumed wrongly that you where showing him now. Still at least you haven't got long to wait now! Glad Sparky is progressing well.

Have to say I have thought for a long time now that it needs to be better organised. After all the Trafalgar events last year I thought it might have improved this year.

It would be a shame if it is the last show as it can be a good family fun day out! & they seem to be in short supply as it is.

I went for the last 4 years. This is the first year I missed. The schedule arrived while I was in the States and got misplaced so I completely forgot till about a month before - but they'd had an early closing date... So we went to the SW Whippet Fun day which we've missed every year becuase it clashes.

The first 2 years I went it was superb!! The following year, it was ok, but not as good, and last year it really was struggling. About 1/2 the stands/exhibits etc as there had been the first couple of years. It wasn't really anything exciting... The dog show was well supported, and whippets are always strong at that show (and on the same day as the Whippet Fun Day too!!). I'm not surprised that they're talking of not having it. It's a shame. I actually DO like the venue, but the organisation of the whole thing (not the dog show) has really gone downhill :(
