SPIRIT
**UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013**
Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.
Key Points: Super dog, huge potential, active mind, loves people, friendly, dog savvy, travels well, would flourish in an active home who will exercise his body and his brain.
The beautiful Spirit is a 1 year old lurcher boy who is looking for a forever family to call his own. He is a fab young dog with a sleek, shiny coat and just needs a bit more muscling before he’s an absolute stunner. Spirit was very lucky to be rescued from a potentially not-so-nice life, and his only remnant of this bad start is his docked tail.
~ Personality ~
Generally: Friendly, exuberant, loves life, has basic training, needs work on focusing and attention span, huge potential.
Spirit lives up to his name, as he’s simply full of it! He’s a lovely, exuberant, active boy who is crying out for someone to play with him and show him fun things to do. He has a very bright mind that really needs a job to do. Spirit would be fantastic at something active and exciting such as agility or flyball. We think he’d be a pro!
Spirit loves people and is super friendly He’ll smother you in kisses, and befriends everyone he meets. He can have the occasional moment of nervousness, though that is often seen in adolescent dogs and is something they grow out of with some confidence building. He seems to know the basic commands, but needs more work on his ability to focus and concentrate. This boy needs positive training with tasty treats and engaging interactions to learn and grow. He is still just a puppy, after all!
~ In the Home ~
Generally: Not yet in a home. Clean in his kennel. Loves toys.
Spirit has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. Spirit is clean in his kennel, which suggests that he may not take long to master the art of housetraining. He will likely be very inquisitive and curious about the brand new home environment, but should soon get a grasp of the house rules. He LOVES to play and is guaranteed to be a fantastically rewarding family member. We can't stress enough how super this dog is!
~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Adores dogs, loves playing chase, would do best living with another dog(s).
Spirit has been ace with all the other dogs he has met. He loves canine company, and adores nothing more than a good hard run with someone who can keep up with him. He is non-confrontational with other dogs, accepts a telling off, and is also more happy and adjusted in their company. He would be delighted to live in a home with another playful dog or two present to help burn any excess energy.
Spirit has not been tested with cats yet, but this can be carried out if required.
~ Out and About ~
Generally: Learning to walk to heel, excellent in the car, social and curious.
Being just a puppy, Spirit does have more energy and healthy exuberance than your average adult greyhound. He does still have his ‘flop on the grass’ moments, but also loves to be active and use his brain. He would absolutely flourish in a fairly active home that will take him on long walks and show him the world. His lead training is a work in progress but he is getting there quite quickly – right now if he sees another dog, he wants to say hi ‘right now!’ He travels great in the car and settles down straight away.
With a decent amount of time on recall training and bond building in the home first, Spirit will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads and livestock. This boy would be a really good jogging companion, or could even run alongside you on the bicycle.
~ Where Am I? ~
Spirit is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.
~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Spirit is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering Spirit, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.
There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Spirit, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .
Thank you.
