the following are in pounds so are fairly urgent:

http://www.antrim.gov.uk/index.cfm/website...y/642/show/more

Antrim pound Northern Ireland

black (with white markings) broken coated male lurcher approx 3 years old, surrendered Ref- 5175

brindle female lurcher approx 2 years old Ref -5177

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1...8504&type=1

Carrickfergus pound has a female whippet cross, a fawn female lurcher, a black female lurcher, young female black greyhound, black male greyhound, male saluki cross, grey shaggy haired male lurcher

If the picture is there, the dog is probably still there; Carrickfergus wardens seem to make a great effort to get the dogs into homes and rescues and sometimes are able to keep dogs well past legal minimum time.

http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....showtopic=80646

Dunboyne pound, co Meath (takes in dogs from Dublin also)

black and white young greyhound type lurcher pup, very unhappy in pound, "Jewel" kennel no. 17, release date 27 March

http://www.louthcoco.ie/en/Services/Dog-Pound/6452.html

Dundalk county pound - male whippet cross, blue fawn and white, ref no 6452- his release date was 14 March so I don't know if this dog is still at the pound, but he is listed on line anyway

One place to look for sighthounds who are in Irish rescues is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Greyhounds-A...239182342782816

There is a picture on the page at present of a shockingly emaciated fawn greyhound type lurcher who is now in the care of Cork Dog Action Welfare

Another useful page for finding sighthounds who are in Irish rescues is http://www.irishanimals.ie/adoptagreyhound.html (whippets and lurchers are included on the page)

The pup Jewel in Dunboyne pound was rehomed from the pound I believe.

Rainbow rehoming centre, Eglinton, Co Derry has two shorthaired black with white female lurchers, Layla and Lucy. Both are smallish, not more than 23 inches tall I think, but you wouldn't mistake them for whippets. Friendly, affectionate dogs and okay with other dogs though one of them is dangerous to cats. One was a cruelty case and the other was rescued from the pound. Their pictures are not on this page, but I see a similar lurcher female with longer hair listed as being in the pound and I would worry that she won't get out as local rescues already have lurchers they are trying to rehome. That would be the problem for the surrendered staffy also as Rainbow, which is quite a small rescue, has 3 staffies at present . http://www.rainbowrehoming.com/adopt/dogs_line1.htm

Dogs Aid Dublin has 4 very attractive smoothcoated lurchers

http://www.dogsaid.ie/adoptable-dogs?start=12 (first 3 photos and descriptions on this page, Rosie's details on the next page)

Jill beautiful blue merle greyhound type lurcher, quite large 9 mos old, good temperament, needs socialisation

Mammy 4 year old black and white or tricolour (photo not that clear) female saluki type lurcher "a calm gentle dog who loves affection and seems to take most things in her stride"

Smokie 4 year old female, good with people and dogs but not with cats, black and white, maybe merle, photo only shows head

Rosie 4 year old, black and white, Smokie's sister with similar description, broader muzzle than most lurchers and described as Dalmatian lurcher cross

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1...6880&type=3 [you need to be signed in, may need to go through Inishowen Rehoming main page on fb, then look at photos, dogs currently available for rehoming)

Inishowen rehoming has had a lovely large greyhound or greyhound type male, Monty, white with black freckles and a black ear, looking for a home for some months now

Inishowen is in the northwest, Donegal, near the border with Derry, Northern Ireland

The following dogs are in Northern Ireland:

http://www.boardingkennelsni.com/rehoming-centre.asp

Mid Ulster Rehoming Centre County Tyrone has a very young looking fawn with white male lurcher pup

http://coleraineonline.tascomi.com/kennels/

Coleraine pound, Northern Ireland handsome female black and white smooth coated lurcher ref no 120058

Layla, mentioned in my previous message above, has just been rehomed from Rainbow Rehoming, Eglinton County Derry

There are a few lurchers in need at Dunboyne pound again, need out Thurs 19 April

http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....showtopic=80714

Miguel small dark brindle with white male lurcher, bit underweight and scruffy but good potential

http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....showtopic=80710

Maddie female lurcher pup, looks rather like Miguel in the photo (and they were both picked up in Tallaght, Dublin). I think she is brindle and white but maybe a fawn with a lot of black grizzle?

http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....showtopic=80711

Mabel, female, pretty redgold fawn with white, longish hair - looks like a cross between a fox and a lurcher

There are also farm collie, German shepherd, jack russell types currently at Dundalk and Dunboyne pounds

If you are near Dundalk and can help with foster of a springer spaniel with her 4 pups born at Dundalk pound please get in touch ASAP:dundalkdogrescue@yahoo.co.uk

A good site to look for rescued/fostered sighthounds in republic of Ireland who are looking for forever homes is:

http://www.sighthound-strolls.proboards.co...gi?board=rescue

Madra rescue centre in Co Galway has a male fawn grizzle saluki type lurcher named Cinnamon and a black female whippet-type named Wispa. Both young, friendly dogs. They also have adoptable dogs of several other types besides sighthounds.

http://madra.ie/en/our-dogs.html

There are too many lurchers in Craigavon pound County Armagh, N Ireland (east coast, between Belfast and Dublin). See at present ref 120,129, 130, 156, 157.

http://www.craigavon.gov.uk/environment/en...og-control.html

Pound dogs need rescue places urgently or they may be "put to sleep"

County Antrim pound

ref 5214 male smoothcoated male lurcher fawn with white face

ref 5217 black smoothhaired female lurcher, shiny coat, looks in good condition, white chest marking

also a surrendered German shepherd male, ref 5215

http://www.antrim.gov.uk/index.cfm/website...y/642/show/more

attractive, affectionate wheaten coloured rough-coated medium sized male lurcher kennel 8 at Dunboyne Pound, Co Meath (north of Dublin) "sailor",

http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....showtopic=80781

There is always information on sighthounds in rescue centres looking for forever homes at:

http://www.sighthound-strolls.proboards.co...ex.cgi?board=sr

and

http://www.irishanimals.ie/adoptagreyhound.html (includes other sighthounds, not all the listings are greyhounds)

also sighthounds at Carrickfergus pound, Co Antrim, N Ireland http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gales-Doggie...131566503588504

the white whippet will almost certainly be sorted by whippet rescue if not reclaimed or rehomed direct from the pound

and do look at the previous message, also posted today (22 May 2012)

another one at Dunboyne pound, described as whippet type due to small size but is looks stockier than a pure whippet and the coat is not so fine

photo and details for contact (A Dog's Life, group which helps get dogs out of the pound and into rescues if places available) on the petsireland website

"Tabitha" short haired medium-small fawn lurcher female, quiet and biddable

kennel number 11, time up at the pound = 26 May

http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....showtopic=80789

note: more dogs listed in two messages above, also recently posted

Tabitha (see above) is still in urgent need as are lurchers at Craigavon pound. Some of the sighthounds listed at Carrickfergus pound (Gales doggy pages on facebook) have been rehomed or gone to rescues, but keep checking as more come in. I believe the white whippet is with NI whippet rescue.

new entries on this discussion thread:

Mabel fawn female whippet type lurcher (many whippet corsses such as Tabitha are stockier than purebreds, but Mabel looks slim as a whippet, said to be slightly taller)

http://www.ispca.ie/rehoming/view/charlie

Kildare and wicklow Ispca

May - pretty black and white smoothcoated lurcher, about 1 year old, "fits any household"

http://www.dogsaid.ie/adoptable-dogs (Dublin area)

and from the same rescue

Beau - who despite the name is said to be female, fawn short coated lurcher pup under 4 mos old

http://www.dogsaid.ie/adoptable-dogs?start=6

(pages are updated weekly, so these dogs may change their places on the queue; at present there are 3 pages of adoptable dogs - May is on p1 and Beau on p2)
