STANLEY

**UPDATED: AUGUST 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Stanley would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.

Key Points: Friendly, easily content, affectionate, placid, gentle, good with greyhounds, not yet in a home, not assessed with small dogs, walks well on lead, good traveller.

Stanley is the ‘new dog on the block’ and has just arrived to us after getting a lucky escape when he was deemed no good for the racing world.

He is a beautiful brindle boy who just turned 4 years old at the beginning of August. His coat is very thick and woolly at the moment with lots of dead coat, but once he gets a few grooming sessions he’s going to be a different boy. Stanley has a sharp, perky expression and beautiful big eyes. And we just love his single sticky-up ear!

~ Personality ~

Generally: Chipper boy, friendly & placid, gentle, mannerly, becoming more affectionate.

Stanley has only recently arrived with us so we are still getting to know him. So far though he has been a real gent of a dog and is your typical greyhound – excellently behaved, beautifully gentle and a total cuddle bug. He really enjoys getting a bit of fuss and attention and is learning now that if he asks for more fuss, he actually gets it. He also loves his food so will give you 300% attention if you have a tasty treat!

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Not yet in a home.

Stanley has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Great with other greyhounds, social and happy, not assessed with small dogs or cats.

Stanley has been very good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far, and enjoys his romp in the paddock. He has not been assessed yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks well, calm and placid, loves going on walks, not overly active, good in car.

Like most greyhounds, Stanley is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Stanley loves his walks to bits, they are definitely the highlight of his day. He loves seeing the world and, being a placid well-mannered boy, it’s a joy to take him to new places. He also travels well in the car and settles quickly.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Stanley is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Stanley is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Stanley, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Stanley, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.

It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
