STAR

**UPDATED: MAY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK.

Key Points: Bubbly, playful, super affectionate, loves kids, cheeky monkey, would benefit from further canine socialisation, walks well on lead, has an active mind that needs stimulation.

Scrumptious Star is a little 3-legged whippet x lurcher girl who is looking for a forever family to call her own. She is approx 1.5 years old and fairly petite with a lovely shiny black coat. She’s cute as a button! Star was rescued in Ireland and had to have her leg amputated due to a bad break. Having just 3 paws poses her no problems at all, however, and she tears around the garden like a completely normal pooch.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Very loving & cuddly, responsive, cheeky, playful, bubbly.

Star is lovely little cheeky minx. She’s very playful, super affectionate and really loves people. Being a ‘tripod’ dog doesn’t slow her down in the slightest and she’s a bouncy cuddly little girl who loves to run and play. She is incredibly affectionate and always ready to give some kisses. She is suitable to live with children over the age of 8, and loves kids because kids love to play! She is also quite responsive to people and lives for the one-on-one attention involved in teaching her new tricks or obedience.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Housetrained, can chew if bored, ok to be left, can live with another dog with proper introductions.

Star is very good in the home and was housetrained from the start. She’s very playful and a constant source of laughs for her foster parents. She is still quite puppyish in behaviour and will occasionally chew things in the home if she gets bored. She is a moderately active little girlie who greatly enjoys a challenge and a chance to further bond with her people, making training her hugely beneficial for everyone involved. She is fine to be left provided she has lots of toys and maybe a stuffed Kong to keep her busy.

Star is sharing her foster home with a small menagerie of pets including 4 other dogs, 5 chickens and 2 gerbils. She is still adjusting to living with other dogs, though now gets on well with the pooches in her foster home. She adores people and strongly gravitates to them. When moving to her new home, a bit of care may be needed to ensure this strong love of her humans doesn’t result in the formation of separation anxiety, and our behaviourist is on hand to help with that transition if needed.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Good with some dogs, becomes vocal at times. Needs confidence building. Not cat friendly.

Star currently has mixed feelings about other canines, though she is greatly improving. She is completely fine with some dogs but can get vocal with others at times. If unfamiliar dogs are reactive, she will mirror that and react back. She is having regular sessions with our behaviourist at the moment and making great progress. She’s such a young girl and most of it is believed to be simply adolescent ‘teenager drama’! We will provide continuing backup from our behaviourist when Star enters her new home to ensure it goes smoothly. Star is not cat friendly, but now ignores the chicken enclosure in her foster home.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks well on lead, travels ok for short journeys but gets motion sick on longer trips.

Star walks well on the lead and really loves getting out and about, seeing the world. She travels ok in the car though can sometimes get sick on long journeys. We hope this motion sickness will pass as she gets used to travelling in the car, and she is currently fine on short journeys to the local park and shops etc. She is very social with people and loves making new friends, though can be overly vocal in meeting unfamiliar dogs. Star is fine in busy and built up areas, not much phases her.

~ Where Am I? ~

Star is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a home checker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Star is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Star, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the form, as well as further information on our homing procedures, on the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html.

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
