hi, please could i ask for help? my friend's beloved lurcher Buddy has

been stolen. it was over a week ago but as you can imagine their lives

are totally on hold. please look out for him - i'll describe him as

best i can - he's quite tall -27"? and gangly being only 18 months old.

he's a fawn/gream brindle with a log/broken coat and a curled -to -one -

side tail, feathered. he's a saluki, greyhound, deerhound cross. very

friendly. he was stolen when the owner popped in for a paper- was in

there under a minute but one man blocked his view while another put

buddy in a silver car and drove away. this was in a town called

saltford, near Bath on 26th sept 07.

there seems to have been several pale lurchers stolen - might this

indicate lamping suitability?

since looking into this i've been horrified at how many dogs get stolen

from cars and gardens -it feels like nowhere is safe for our dogs.

please be careful!!

So sorry to hear this I hope Buddy is being well cared for.

Is he chipped? I presume they have contacted dog lost and local dog wardens, kennels, rescue centres? It's worth trying dog wardens etc in the surrounding counties too - we know of a dog that went missing in Somerset but was found in Devon so even though the owners were checking with dog warden daily they were never advised she's been found as there isnt a central database.

Good luck I hope he is found safe and well.

some good advice i copied from a rescue site i go on

Never leave your dog unattended in the garden if you are leaving the house Do not leave your pet in your vehicle or tied up unattended in a public place.

Have your dog microchipped. The procedure can be performed by a vet and will allow the animal to be identified.

If your dog is definitely stolen for selling on or you receive a ransom note, contact the police. Do not attempt to get the dog back yourself.

Report the theft as quickly as possible and ask for a crime number.

If your dog is missing, contact the dog warden.

Contact groups such as Dog Theft Action, Doglost, Petsearch UK, Petlog Missing and Pets Bureau who can help trace the pet.

Missing pet posters are still one of the effective ways of tracking down an animal. Email it to all the vets, pounds and pet shops in the area so if your animal is brought in, there is a good chance it will be recognised.

Search your local area and places that would be familiar to your animal, such as routes normally used for walks.

hope your friend gets him back, good luck
