Hi all

Our bitch is in season and ready and willing to be mated, but unfortunately our dog

is not interested in her probably as they live together.

If possible the stud should live within 40 miles of us(Wolverhampton).

The first mating should be Fri/sat 3rd may with another sun/mon

She has a good pedigree from show lines

Please help!

i think youve missed her mate!3rd may was last month! :- "

Good luck in finding her a stud Ian :luck: :luck:

It probably would help your case if you gave some idea of what breeding lines you were looking for?

[

Her show lines are mainly Neverdith and kaymark and some pencloe dutch gold

might be an idea to give her age and your reasons for breeding.i see from reading your posts that you mated your lurcher on the 31stmarch.is it wise to have 2 litters so near to one another?

Yes that is true, but the lurcher pups will hopefully have been sold by then

Surely you should only breed a litter ( of ANY breed ) to try and improve the breed , and not use just some dog that is handy . What happens if you cant sell all your lurchers , (w00t) do you have good homes waiting for Whippet puppies ??

my concerns exactly jax.plus a few other to be honest :(

yes , very nice Lesley . all well and good , but as the lurchers havnt got new homes to go to how does he know he will home the whippet puppies ,Without sounding `stuckup `or whatever , I know Lurchers are lovely but generally the sort of people that want them , want them for the wrong reasons  . Its hard enough getting super homes for Pedigree Whippets let alone crosses .

I dont wish to offend Stark and other Lurcher folk .

hi

We love our dogs very much, they are first and foremost pets. we havr not bred our lurchers for financial gain, and will not sell them to anyone that appears unsuitabe. We are offended you think that.

Furthermore breeding from our whippet bitch is not just a whim! yes we race both our whippets neither being very good. They are pets to us. We think that the racing freternity are obsessive and should find a life outside racing.

Perhaps you should keep your nasty assumptions to yourself

Paula

i have to say that although theres some nice pics of pups on that thread it hardly addresses the enquiry.like bitches age, soundness and suitability to be bred from, can you say to yourself the breed will be improved by me doing this mating?most folk planning a litter would spend time finding a suitable stud with compatable blood lines, good temperament and one who is known for throwing sound healthy pups.oh and having puppies booked is always a good start too. :))

I won't comment about that because I might get myself into bother again by disagreeing with people more experienced than myself, I will say however that I think it's been quite unfair to Ian as he hasnt had a chance to answer any questions about himself before the doubting oppinions came. :(

I appreciate that Kris

I put that thread up so that people would realise that Ian had not just come on to the forum wanting a stud dog, because I know how people are about new members and I agree with that, but he did say that he already had his stud dog unfortunatley he would not perform, maybe if he had got some positive responce he may have more eager to answer the enquiry about his bitch, I personally would have wished i'd never asked :(

I appear to be on all day(and sometimes I am  ) but a lot of the time My computer is but I'm not

We all want to do the best for our breeds (and cross breeds) perhaps the way the original thread was worded was not the best. Provision of more information would have helped clarify the situation and perhaps the bitches pedigree. For instance, Nevedith lines have been mentioned. Is the bitch a directly bred Nevedith etc, so on and so forth? Those of you that know me, know that all my stock is either direct Nevedith or bred along the same lines and I would be interested to know moreabout the bitch in question and if she is mainly Nevedith would it not be a good idea to contact the Nevedith kennel to seek their advice?

les, surely none of the queries put were out of the ordinary with what any decent stud dog owner would ask?in fact as the owner of a number of successful stud dogs over 30 years of breeding/showing/judging i would certainly be asking a lot more questions than the couple i asked on here. :) and as the owner of studs i used to take it very seriously,to ensure the welfare of my dogs pups.i was never a person to mate a bitch take the money and run.i felt i had a responsibility to those pups.if someone comes here asking for help in finding a stud dog arent the potential stud dog owners entitled to ask some questions ?i though by asking them he could post the reasons for mating his bitch and some info about her then anyone who was interested could get in touch.maybe its misinterpreted but i was trying to help.even if it would be to discourage someone from breeding who maybe doesnt have homes waiting for pups?sometimes help isnt appreciated when its not what we want to hear.

I think it's a bit unfair that Ian & family have been jumped on just because they have asked for a stud dog for their bitch.Have any of you been informed that these folk aren't going to do the best for their pups?

I have spoken to Paula today & had a good chat & given her some advice & will be talking again tomorrow.

I know we all get suspicious when people who are "not showies" want to breed a litter, but they don't all go into it blindly.

Surely a bit of help & advice is better than having a go!
