Hi Folks,

I have been looking after a Saluki for the christmas/new year period, her name is Suki and she is absolutely beautiful, she is a dream in the house but!!! yes, wait for it!!! shes a bloody nightmare outside!!!!! she has me run ragged!LOLOL

Once of the lead ,its all systems go and as we say in Ireland "she cocks a deaf one" she is so fast that i have to run after her to make sure she is in sight, i don't think her owner lets her off much but im working with her and we are making progress, but inside the house she is so well behaved and Finbarr adores her which im so pleased about, its been so good for him to have another dog, he has learnt to share and he is generally much better which leads me to believe that one whippet is not a good thing so who knows what the future holds :)) :))

Heres a few snaps( Suki is the blonde one)LOL

She's lovely and not that common a smooth coated saluki a friend has a georgous bitch he imported but he doesn't show her.

It is a thing with salukis going of hunting on their own its what they were expected to do in their native country my friend only runs hers in and enclosed field. They are also very alloof and standofish with people they do not now

This reminds me I shall have to go to my friends house to take some more photos of her pups

Suki looks very elegant :)

I didn't realise they came in smooth coats as well! When I was in my teens ( (w00t) ) my friend's mother had a white saluki long coat. It was the fattest and most lazy dog I have ever met (w00t) . Looking back, I don't think they ever took it out for a walk ..... it just lounged around and ate  Poor thing :(

Yes, Oakmoorehill i have been told that the Saluki does like to go its own way when hunting its in the genes but one consolation shes making me lose weight running after her!!! :- "

she's a very beautiful girlie - looking at her reminds me of my borzois - like someone cut off all their hair!

she sounds like some of mine - a couple are hooligans and wont come back but the others are wonderful and run around then come back and walk behind me - they are all different it seems.

if i let my two young boys go they run till they find an open gate or gap in a hedge and cover the next field and so on and so on - i used to watch two white dots on the horizon and return home to stress while they ran amock - they always came home after 4 hours - almost on the dot - now they just cant get off unless i take them out one by one which seems to stop them ganging up on me!!

hounds .......who'd have 'em!

Gone for four hours!!!! OMG i'd be worried sick if Suki went on a treck for that lenght of time, i think as you say they are all different, Suki has not been let off the lead much but i let her off as i think its criminal if a sighthound does'nt run, she is now starting to realise that if i put her on the lead she will be allowed off the lead again so there is progress

Well done for being so brave - but there'e nothing like watching them run is there...as long it's not their backsides disappearing over the horizon

Hi Debs,

Thats what i like about you, your quick on the uptake LOLOLOL :))

Well hint or no hint i have to tell you Debs, Finn is a different dog!!!! he has let Suki share everything even me!!! its been so good for him he is definitely better with another dog soooooooo???????hehehe???? aahh what to do!!!

Yes, Finbarr does look like his beautiful sister Meadow :)) :))

She's a lovely looking girl

The girls are both well thanks and up to their

normal tricks

You're very brave. I have a Saluki and have been involved with the breed for a while but would never let one off lead unless in a fully enclosed area.

As you say, they are delightful inside and very cat like but just like cats, they love the opportunity to hunt.

Have fun with her.

Yes, im starting to realise that i am brave, but i only let her off in a very secluded area with nobody about and she runs in a big circle and then she does this figure of eight thing shes magnificent :))

can you tell me anything else about the breed as you have been involved with them? do you think they can be trained outside?

Rachel

Shall we run a book on how long it is before there's a thread on here from rachel called "meet finnbarr's new brother/sister"

any takers????

Suki is just gorgeous btw
