SUNNY

Poor Sunny is a 3 year old greyhound boy who was brought to a vet clinic in Cork to be euthanized as he had broken his hock and was no longer any good for coursing. Luckily the vet decided against this and used funding from a local charity to perform surgery on his injured leg. Sunny has now been handed over to us to find him his forever home.

This lovely big boy has a very pretty fawn coat with a white chest and gorgeous dark eyes. His injured leg is now in a cast which will need to stay on for a further couple of weeks, but after that Sunny should be ready and waiting for his new home. He is going to be in seventh heaven once he discovers the joys of a cosy warm sofa.

Sunny has a beautiful temperament and despite the pain of his injured leg, he has never caused any fuss. He is a lovely quiet dog with a soft temperament and never pulls on the lead even though he is on restricted exercise right now. All he wants is some yummy food, a soft bed and lots of head rubs, and he is a very contented boy.

Sunny gets on well with other greyhounds and again has never caused any problems. At the moment he is living with Jock, another greyhound in our care, as they are both fawn and have casts on their right hind legs! Initial tests indicate that Sunny is likely to be fine with small dogs, but this will be tested more thoroughly before he goes to his new home. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialising with smaller dog breeds before they realise that they are actually dogs. Sunny is not cat friendly.

Like most greyhounds, Sunny is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week.

This dear boy has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.

Sunny is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Sunny, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
