SUZIE

Meet dear Suzie. She is an approx. 5 year old lurcher girl, possibly a mix of greyhound, whippet and saluki. This lovely little girl has had a tumultuous past and has quite the history. She was rescued directly from a pound 4 years ago where she had an hour left before being PTS. After this she was adopted by the owners of the rescue center who took her in as they found they just couldn’t part with her. Now, however, the owners are both gravely ill and sadly are finding they have to part with dear Suzie. Kerry Greyhound Connection is now helping to find her a new forever home.

Suzie is a real little beauty and has a two-tone blue fawn coat that is just stunning in the sun. She has huge amber eyes with mascara lines and she always tends to draw attention when out on walks.

When Suzie was first taken in she was an absolutely terrified little girl, nervous of everyone. She desperately wanted to be loved but she just didn’t trust people. It is now several years later and Suzie has improved in confidence in leaps and bounds. She is a lovely, well adjusted girl who likes to do all the things a normal hound does – sleep, eat, run and sleep! She can still sometimes ‘swing’ from over-excited to scared but overall she has settled really well and is content in herself. She is very affectionate and likes nothing more than to snuggle beside you on the sofa whilst you stroke her.

Suzie is very good with other dogs and never shows any aggression. She is cat-friendly inside the house and once taught to leave cats alone outside, she just ignores them. She loves to play with other dogs, though can be a sensitive girl and will scream and run away if another dog gets too rough with her. This habit has earned her the very affectionate nickname of ‘Shrieker’, but she does need to be watched when in group play sessions as this flee behaviour can sometimes get her picked on.

Suzie will do best in a home with another dog(s) already present as she gets a lot of her confidence from her canine friends. Her closest companion in her current home is Maggie, a lovely black greyhound girl who is sadly also looking for her new home. Maggie is an ex-breeding girl who is of a similar temperament to Suzie, though with a bit less in the brain department! Suzie immediately attached herself to Maggie and now acts as her minder. A full profile for Maggie is also available, and if you can’t find it just email me.

The absolute ideal would be to home these two ladies together, but as this is not always possible, single home offers will definitely be accepted. Care will be needed to ensure that the resident dog(s) are not overly dominant, however, as Suzie is the type of dog that attracts canine bullies.

Suzie really is a very good, low maintenance hound and would slot very well in to most pack type situations. She is excellent on the lead and will chase a ball, though she has not quite mastered the point of bringing it back! She loves to run and be free but will always come back when called. She has spent the last 4 years in a home environment and so is very much housetrained and used to living in a home.

**UPDATE: JANUARY 2011**

Suzie is still available for adoption. She was reserved for a home, though this has sadly not worked out through no fault at all of Suzie’s. This fabulous little girl will be an amazing companion for the right family and we are appealing to find her forever home as soon as her owner’s health is unfortunately deteriorating. Dear Maggie is also still available, and we are still crossing paws for the right home to come along and adopt them both.

Suzie is currently in a home in Roscommon, Ireland, and can be transported by her owner to the UK if a suitable home offer comes up. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick her up. She is neutered, vaccinated, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Suzie (and maybe Maggie too!), please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!
