don't know if it's worth coming bright and early if we only want to race ... what time do you think the dog races will start?

is there racing for terriers also? (a question on behalf of someone else)

how do we find the grounds when we get to Tandragee?

Ah happy memories of hacking around the lanes on a local dealers horses around Tangradee in the mid 80's.

Hacking and Horse shows in the summer and hunting and cross country in the winter, total bliss

Hello Macha ...............

At Tandragee show there is going to be some racing before the showing begins. Racing with a few hurdles/jumps and probably the straight terrier racing will be be done first so you might want to get there at around 11.30am ish if it suits.

Straight lurcher racing will start after the lurcher judging is over so as with most of the shows, it's impossible to put a time to it! Tandragee are having the usual under 23''race and over 23'' race but also an under 21'' race for the smaller lurchers and whippets.

Why are you only interested in the racing? Why not show your dogs aswell? I've listed the lurcher classes below, as you will see there is a large selection, I'm sure some of them would suit :

LURCHER PAIRS

LURCHER PUP

WHIPPET/WHIPPET CROSS

SIGHT HOUND/ SIGHT HOUND CROSS

COLLIE CROSS

BULL CROSS

IRISH NATIVE TERRIER CROSS

LAMPING LURCHER

FOX LURCHER

UNDER 23'' ROUGH COAT

UNDER 23'' SMOOTH COAT

OVER 23'' ROUGH COAT

OVER 23'' SMOOTH COAT

Whether you race/ show or do a bit of both I hope you can make it and have an enjoyable day  ......... Fingers crossed for some good weather!!

 Oh by the way, you can't miss finding the grounds.... Tandragee is built on a hill. Go all the way down the hill through the town, go straight across the mini roundabout at the bottom, follow the road round a slight bend to the right and just round that bend on the right hand side you'll see us in a field. TherEshould be a few sign posts in Tandragee anyway. Hope that helps!?

I hope I am going to be able to bring the rollocksome boys to race round Tandragee

I might show them as long as I'm there, but if it's a long show like that one in Moira, I get mighty tired waiting for the racing to start. I think the dogs also get tired waiting around. Of course, Moira had huge classes and small rings with no room to move the dogs properly and someone said to me that Tandragee would be better organised.

I think the dogs enjoy racing whether they win or lose, but I'm not sure I see the point of showing if you don't have a potential winner. And no one was able to tell me what the judges look for at a lurcher show where there are no breed standards. At a kennel club show I have a fair idea what I look for in the breeds I know best, and I have an idea what the judges look for also even though they/we don't always agree. This may sound a bit odd, but although he's a handsome dog I know that if my lurcher were a purebred he wouldn't be show quality.

Tandragee always has big rings so there's plenty of room to move and stand with your dog.

It's nice to hear that people think we are well organised......we have a hardworking team and we like to think we are!!  and believe me it takes months of planning in advance to get it all sorted and the last few days before the show are hectic!!

All the forward organising usually lends itself to a great show on the day (even the weather usually smiles on us!! :D )

and I need another whippet-loving friend with a car

I could get a train from Derry to Portadown via Belfast; it's a long journey for a day at the races and I'd still need a lift or dog-friendly taxi from Portydown to Tandragee

Well of course I was at Tandragee.......but had no dogs with me as I was one of the many workers helping organise and run the show. o:)

It was a great day.....the sun shone 8) , the crowds came with their lovely dogs  ,and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves  . some a little too much perhaps at the after show get together!!!! :x :x  !!!!

The overall lurcher winner was William McKeowns 'Clint', who won through from the over 23'' rough coated class. ........Clint also went on to win Best in Show.

All the classes were pretty big and the competition was tough, so well done to any K9 ers who got placed
