Just being really nosey now - have any of you whippet folk out there got tattoos of your favourite hounds? I'm sure I've seen a couple on shoulders during the summer months.

I had waited for ages until I decided to get a tattoo done, obviously it's not a decision to be taken lightly. I had to make sure that I would still love it in 20, 40 or however many years time. I knew I really wanted a whippet, but was completely paranoid about having a "realistic" one done just incase the tattooist made a mistake. No matter how small, I would have hated any fault - perhaps an eye out of shape, or a misaligned ear or something

So, for that reason I designed my own Celtic Hound pattern, more stylised, more of a charachture. I had it done about 3 years ago and still love it!

So come on all you whippet lovers - SHOW US YOUR TATS !!! (w00t)

Louise

PS No, tattoos don't hurt by the way, I've had my armpits waxed - THAT hurts!!

I think it was Doris who had a gorgeous tattoo done in memory of her lovely whippet  - I'm not sure how to put up the link though.

your tattoo is gorgeous   funny, I haven't thought about mine for weeks, but just been up the pub and some bloke said to me that he'd noticed it before, and could recognise me from the back as well as the front, cos of my lovely tattoo, how it was nice to see something unique, made me feel really good :huggles:

I felt the same as you , wanted something to represent his memory instead of an actual image, couldn't cope with an inaccourate pic of him!!

I would just say, what ever you have done will be with you for the rest of your life, be absoutely sure of what you what, sleep on it, think about it and sleep on it again!!!!!! it will be time very well spent  :luck:

Awwww, just had a look at your tattoo, it's really lovely. I would quite like another one across the bottom of my back, like a stylised whippet running at full stretch. Only thing is, I never show that part of my body, so I think it would be a bit of a waste! If you're gonna have 'em, show 'em off, that's what I say. It's the same with my piercings - I've only got ones you can see - no hidden extras. (Yes, I know there are "other" reasons for having piercings in less accessable places, but that's really not my thing  )

I really didn't think having a tattoo was painful at all. I think I got myself all geared up to the fact that it was going to hurt like hell and was expecting the worse. They reckon your second one hurts more because, after the first one you think "oh, that was OK" and think the second one will be a doddle. But, because you're in a differnet frame of mind, it hurts 'cos you're not expecting it!

My advice (as I was given and worked perfectly for me) is to uncover it after about 4 or 5 hours and give it a good clean with soap and water. Apply a good layer of Savlon, but do not re-cover. Just do this everyday and don't pick at it. I had no flaking or scabbing, it just healed up brilliantly

Don't know if it counts, but 2 of my boys have tattoos in their ears. Reg's is black, but Archie's is green. I think Reg quite fancies a couple more, y'know, a dagger or an anchor or a heart with "mother" across it or something

I fancied having a whippet at full stretch too! but think I may have an iggie at full stretch one day - some people may find it hard to believe, but iggies can run like the wind!

not sure where it will be, I'm not one for showing much of my body off (got too much of it!) but don't mind if the world doesn't get to see it - probably better for them if they don't

tough guy Reg - go for it! (w00t)
