TAZZ
**UPDATED: 7th JULY 2012**
Say hello to the very handsome Tazz! He is a 4 year old ex-coursing greyhound boy who is now firmly finished with the racing world and wants a family to call his own. Tazz is a very gorgeous fella, with a soft fawn coat and the most amazing ears that stand to attention when he’s listening to you!
~ Personality ~
Tazz is absolutely bursting to meet the world. He truly loves life, and is not shy about smothering you in kisses while his big helicopter tail spins in a blur. Tazz really is a super boy for the right kind of home. He is confident and full of beans, with a special part in his heart for people. Tazz adores people in all forms, though this love may be a bit overwhelming for small children and he can knock them over without realising it. The upside of this love, though, is Tazz is very biddable and will try his very best to be good once he realises what you want of him. Adding some tasty treats to this mix and you have a very trainable dog who is eager to work with you.
Mr Tazz is an active dog who likes to be out investigating and discovering new things. He is not your typical lazy potato greyhound and would relish an active life with a busy family.
~ In the Home ~
Tazz has been in his foster home for 10 weeks now, and is very settled. He is housetrained, quiet through the night, is ok to be left either with other dogs or on his own, and is not destructive. He also knows the standard range of basic commands, and is happy to share his space. He is living with 3 female greyhounds and absolutely loves them all. Tazz is now enjoying all the home comforts he deserves, and as active as he is, he still loves his sofa time.
Recently Tazz has discovered the joys of toys, and he now loves flinging squeaky toys around during his mad hour in the garden. He is a real clown of a dog and never fails to put a smile on your face. Tazz is the perfect dog to come home to after a stressful day at work, just ten minutes of his big goofy smile and all your troubles will be lifted!
~ Other Animals ~
Tazz is excellent with other greyhounds and adores being around his houndy friends. He enjoys their company and is very sociable, though he can be a bit of a bull in a china shop due to his happy exuberance. He will also bark when playing, though there's no malice in him.
He does, however, get very excited when he sees other non-greyhound shaped dogs, simply because he has never seen them before now. It’s clear that he does not yet know that dogs can come in different shapes and sizes, and he is unsure what to make of small breeds such as terriers. When introduced to other dogs in a calmly and controlled fashion, he settles down and has walked alongside them during walks, but he is definitely still a work in progress in this area. He will need many more exposures to many other dogs before he is completely convinced that they are, in fact, dogs! He must be shown how to react and interact with them, rather than making his own mind up as that usually results in lots of barking! This is something that his potential owner will need to be aware of. They will need to be willing to continue the work of his current fosterer in order to teach Tazz about other dog breeds and thus make it possible to walk him happily in doggie areas.
~ Out and About ~
Tazz is a real gentleman on the lead, even when he sees another dog and gets excited and barky, he will never pull. He really really loves his walks and these are by far the highlight of his day. He can get excited when he sees it’s walking time, but settles down quickly and again never pulls on the lead. Tazz also loves to go in the car and settles extremely well.
~ Where Can I Live? ~
Because he is an exuberant boy who does not quite realise how big he is, it would be best if Tazz went to a home without young children as he may knock them over. A home with older kids or teenagers would be ideal, however, as they could play with him and teach him tricks. Tazz could do well as an only dog as he doesn’t seem to mind being left, and he loves his people so very much. He is great with other greyhounds too though, and could live with another hound(s) provided they don’t mind his bouncy playful nature.
This dear boy will also need a hound savvy home with people who know how greyhound minds work so that he can continue to improve his socialisation skills. With the right kind of work and repetition, the beautiful Tazz has oodles of potential, and it’s a shame to see him overlooked again and again due to his one issue with other dogs. If you want an active, extrovert hound who will smother you in love at every opportunity, then Tazz may be for you. We dearly hope that his need for socialisation doesn’t turn people away from adopting this lad, as he is sure to bring years of entertainment to whomever gives him a sofa space.

It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.
Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.
