Hi all my k9 mates,

I am hoping someone will be able to help me.As you know ,we had Ted two weeks ago.He is driving us mad with his fussy eating. There is nothing i have

not tried.Dried Royal Canin puppy,Beta Puppy,PAH puppy, Chicken mince,Tripe, etc.Egg etc.He is just not interested at all.He is very well and active,is full of beans, but just does,nt seem to have much appetite.I have tried the strict only offering 3 meals, but still it doesnt work.He has eaten a chicken fillet this morning, but he is not fat enough.Pete keeps telling me i am stressing too much, but i cant help it.Am i just being to hung up about it all?

I have never had a small dog,so maybe they are just bulit differently.

Hope someone can shed some light. The vet has checked him over, and says hes a fit as a fiddle.

Hi Amanda like I said before Rio was just the same in fact Jade was like that at 1st. I tried Rio on all sorts of puppy food but discovered he preferred adult complete so thats what I gave him. He also has scrambled egg and mince now and again. Some dogs just eat as much as they want while others just pig out but it can be stressful if you've never had a picky eater. Just remember that a pup will not intensionally starve itself and he will improve. Don't worry he'll be fine

Hi

I can sympathise, my old dog now 11 was very difficult to feed from when he was a puppy until about 2 years ago. He also had several nasty bouts of collitis. I used to buy the highest protein hypo allergenic food I could find and try to feed the bare minimum. He disliked dry food so we always moistened with codliver or olive oil . He also liked chicken breast and tinned sardines so part of his food was some of this. As a pup he was hand fed piece by piece on occasions - very wearing! Do perservere, try to work out what he does like and include this in his diet. If you're concerned about his calcium/protein intake while he's growing, I'd get some Skinners Puppy Milk and give him that to moisten his dried food - my 13 week pup loves it and will stay on it for at least another 5 or 6 weeks.

Good luck

Pica loves goats milk - worth a try :) Plus I always moisten his kibble with veg water, & tinned sardines in oil (once a week for that one!) plus I also buy lamb mince but add water to a portion to soak for 10 mins or so. Both dogs also have chopped left-over roast meat from the Sunday :)

I know only too well about stressing!! They can pick that up so easily so dont make a fuss - put his food down, and after 15 mins take it away. He will eat - so hope it all works out OK in the end :)

Thanks everybody.Advice much appreciated.I tried him on TPMS tripe this afternoon, little begger wolfed it down, I think hes palying games with me.I have also put some Royal Canin adult down that the others eat,can you believe he has picked at that too.

Probably just me being a fussy pants. You know how it is,you just want to do the best for them.

Jinny was a nightmare when she was young!!

The only way I could get her to eat anything was to put it on the floor (rather than in a bowl) and preferably by the forkful with the GSDs watching on  That way it seemed to give her the incentive to eat

She's grown up to be a greedy little so 'n so, so I wouldn't worry. Like Sonia said, don't fret too much, Ted will be fine

I used to have to play a game with Megan when she was a pup as she wouldn't eat out of her bowl  I used to get each bit of kibble and throw it across the kitchen floor and she would chase after it and eat it. She is better now thankfully as it used to take me ages to do this as you can imagine otherwise she would not eat her dinner up

Hi

tuna or sardines can sometimes temp a fussy pup.

Ted is gorgeous

Our lurcher poppy who is 18 months old now has been a constant worry to me as she is a fussy eater and is a bit underweight. We have tried everything.

It seems the more i worry the less she eats

Good luck
