Terry lost his fight on Wednesday 16 07 08 :(

Im so sad that Terry has died , although he battled on so bravely .

My first memory of Terry was at my first ever champ show

.I d entered Simon ( Director of Dondelayo ) as it was the Golden Jubillee of the whippet club and any one who was any one would be there. Simonwas in a class of 25 minor puppy dogs (w00t) and I was more than happy when Terry moved us again , `well at least Ive had a 2nd look` I thought ,

Imagine my surprise and delight when we won the class . I could see folks looking into thier catolouges thinking `who the heck is that? Id beaten such as J une Minns, Barbarbra Wilton Clarke , Mary Lowe ,Roma Wrght - smith . PLUS Ann Knight who Id bought him off  We also won maiden ,

As i was still shy then :- " I never said thankyou to the judge :b and a couple of years later I saw him again and went over and said about how much I had wanted to give him a big kiss for my win , and Terry said(as Terry would) Dont le t me stop you now though dear , :huggles: So Terry and I always exchanged a welcome kiss after that .Terry was a bigger flirt than me ;)

I think Richmond 2005 was the last time Terry judged whippets and Mikkee was 2nd in junior behind Patsys lovely Dolly.

Terry also loved his horses and had a racehorse whos name escapes me at the moment ( it begins Im sure with A) . Well this racehorse NEVER won a race (w00t) It would be 2nd( or further down the field) over any distance you would care to run it , but it would never win .

R I P Terry . a super dog man who will be sadly missed ,

Sorry to hear. Sounds like he was quite a personality about the dog world. :(

RIP Terry

Spooky that we were talking about him at 'the party' last week. He will be sadly missed.

Such a shame. He always seemed a friendly sort of gentleman. I was always to nervous to approach him but I will never get the chance now. :(

Cartman , he was our TOP Judge in the uk, He could judge ALL breeds , with or without CCs ,the only person in the UK able to do so

We will always remember Terry as he gave our Pip (Drakesoak Golden Prospect) His CC at Richmond 2004.

Very nice person to speak to and he will be greatly missed through out the dog world.

I will remember him as a very pleasant and polite man. I only plucked up courage to speak to him once but he was lovely. RIP Terry.

Sorry to hear this. Great dog man, he will be sadly missed by all.

I agree, he was always courteous, no matter how busy or invovled he was.

R.I.P

So sorry to hear the news of Terry's passing :(

Many years ago when I was showing my gorgeous Lulu at quite a big show, Terry was judging General Specials. I was still fairly green on the show scene circuit & was feeling quite nervous going in the ring particularly as there was LOADS of talk ringside about this judge, he had a huge reputation with lots of respect  In I went with Lulu at the all breeds show & ended up being awarded Best NZ Bred In Show under Terry :D It took me all my courage to go and ask this 'legend' if I could have a photo of him with me & Lulu to which of course he obliged

RIP Mr Thorn - There are plenty of judges who we come across in our time, but there are only a handful like yourself who leave extra special memories

I wonder what Jax would of done if she had got the CC?

Such sad news. It is lovely to hear people's stories though

RIP Terry

very sad :(

RIP Terry

Such sad news :(

He was such a gent and took time to share wise words with me, he was never beyond that. What a loss to the dog show world.

He gave my Archie a 1st in YD at Richmond in 05 - I was delighted to get that under the great Terry Thorn

Rest In Peace

RIP TERRY he was such a great all rounder and will be sadly missed :(

What a huge loss to the dog world - top judge of all time - and a lovely chap to go with it - I've shown Tibetans and Boxers under him - always gentle for such a big guy.

Terry was one of the very few judges who had the pleasure of juding Sparky. He was 6 months old and it was Portsmouth and Southsea, AV MPD. There were loads entered but only two turned up, us and a chihuahua. I asked Terry if he would judge him on the floor, just as he bent over to examine him Sparky grabbed his tie. I was mortified but Terry just said "what's this, a whippet with a sense of humour".

He placed him second and had a word with me when he had marked his book and said that if I could get him settled he would do well do really well as he was quality, and then with his lovely smile he said, "but he might always be a clown."

What a lovely man and what a loss to the world of dog showing.

Jenny and Sparky
