just called into askern whilst visiting vet opposite track. what a change. this track will be mint when finished in 6 weeks. the bends are like stainforth. real smooth. and the cambre is perfect... this will be an exellent track for the whippets to race. just a mid country track to consider....

Askern-A REAL Bend track....certainly tests their skills.....

I'd be happy to run there again :D

Karen

Moany Moany and Connor's Lass will be back there this winter to do their bend training and the pups will be schooled there. I can't wait to see the changes made to the track. I'm sure an excerpt from a local paper quoted it's new dimensions to be similar to Walthamstow ? Whatever that track is like ?

have they changed the start the run to first bend was to short causing all sorts of problems as the dogs hadnt sorted themselves out, stainforth is a great track the best for any championship event

death trap if the first bends the same as it was

hope its better now its been done up good luck to the owners

:) always like askern track, but it was'nt a track that hellbound ran well on,

askern will be as good as anywere when all the work is complete.ziggy is changing the track alltogether.

First bend-sorts the men out from the boys (w00t)

Stainforth-good track but not as challenging as others-suits gallopers....

couple of years ago at askern meeting in october.atlanta went into the first bend on flukes shoulder, another dog could not take the bend and ran straight into her.she rolled end to end half of the back straight, got up and ran on.very lucky she wasnt badly hurt.tracks ok if start to first bend sorted DANGEROUS.my first concern is the dogs safety,{any dog}

HAS THE START BEEN SORTED???

Just as a matter of interest ----How many dogs were injured at this track ??? and who were they ?? and how many get injured at other tracks up and down the country ??? also how many times have we heard prior to a change in venue as we did at Highgate all about what a bad track this or that track are --only to go there and this was not the case --- if some peoples dogs dont or cant run well on certain tracks they tend to knock them --- these tracks are used week in and week out and are designed for racing not just thrown together willy nilly on the night --- i have seen far more injuries in the last two or three weeks of racing than i ever see whilst running the bends !!! FOOD FOR THOUGHT___

steve

still think askerns first bend was a death trap :( i wouldn't have run a greyhound on it never mind a whippet but if its been altered good luck to them

when the whippet champs were held at askern from the 270m boxes ghd`s had only just started to race from ther and still do untill the track is finished in approx the next 4/6 weeks then the sprint start will be over and the far side where the 200m boxes used to be all four bends are being altered and banked for the saftey of the dogs ,i go to askern regullary and i cant remember the last time a dog was injured on the first bend .

some dogs can run the track ,some cant .....ive got two very fast ghds one who runs it a treat the other is useless on askern 8)

I think askern's a very good track alway like it, think Rch bound too would run this track well, but it did'nt suit hellbound, we all like one track over another hellbound always run well on highgate but i never liked this track, but then i did'nt have to run round it,

if the sprint start is moved to a normal position{just off bend 4}.no problem

Yes-Been loads of injuries over the last 3 weeks or so...

Waterford has staples in her leg at the moment...to name just one from the straights.

Askern is still in my mind challenging-I like it.

Quote Simpson-

Some can run it some can't-spot on

was at askern last night the track closes 29 this month then re opens 11 sep

when track is complete :))

might be worth considering for future fed bend meetings. and i am sure that mick would be happy to let them race there..providing there was plenty of notice....

Askern re-opened today for trials.

All I can say is WOW !

What a fantastic track, wow, wow and wow.

Been watching the greyhounds run in 3's for grading and they all came off sound, no dog was swung out wide at the bend, no bother at the run in to the bed, it's lovely and wide.

250m (thats 275yards) sprinting distance, wide open with white railings all round the inside and on the outside at the bends.

Surface is (hand on heart) the best surface I've seen since racing at Kinsley.

To my mind there is no reason whatsoever why this track cannot become a top class Whippet racing venue. The place was packed out this morning and I hope it continues to be so. Hats off to those concerned in the improvement venture all praise is well deserved.

:D

P.S WOW !!! :teehee:

I only wish I'd have taken my camera so you could all see the track as it is now.
