My hubby and I are looking for a new blue/black (dog) pup as a friend to our 9 month olf blue brindle whippet.... :))

My question is... what is it wit the colours?

You see pup advertised as blue when they are not blue (as in grey colour)

We had Sidney as a blue brindle but TBH i'd say he was more a reddy brown with blue'ish brindle   tis very confussing

So what do I have to ask for when I want a blue pup??? :b

a bottle of dye, probably :- " in staffords a true blue isnt really blue at all, but a deep shade ranging between silver and almost gun metal grey. to reflect this, some breeders have given their blues appropriate kc names, such as 'silver bomber', though blues rarely do well, as they get penalised in the ring for eye/nose colour etc not being correct (often being slate grey, whereas breed specs state that black noses, or butterfly noses where white is present. but this cannot be helped as blue, as with fawn, is a recessive colour)

having seen whippets and igs here and in the flesh, the colour appears to be the same in them as in staffords.....regardless, a 'blue' with good pigmentation is a beautiful sight to behold

That is the colour we have been expecting but we keep getting blue brindle and fawns  which are equally as lovely :b but not what we are after IYKWIM

You doggies are soooo lovely

I broad sense of the word "blue" means that any black pigment is diluted to grey = blue. What you are after is solid blue, which is diluted solid black. :) :luck: :luck: :luck:

Ahhhhh now I get it  thanks for that... I'm off now to ask for a solid blue pup :D :D :D

 thanks

Watch out though. I'm amazed at how often people call blue fawns, blue. Even know of a few puppies that were quite clearly blue fawn that have been registered as blue

just wondering what IYKWIM means, cornish?

i know quite a few of the IMHO, ROFLMAO, STFW, RTFM type web abbreviations, is this one i've not heard of????

just curious, sorry to interrupt!

ps Eve, your little girl is stunning! Very similar colouring to Dij, but i've always been told he's silver brindle!

This is my blue boy and what I would understand as blue. He is six now and we are beginning to see bits of grey in his coat particularly around his muzzle.

Hope this helps cornish.

A blue at 4 weeks old (my tilly)

If the pups not blue at 4 weeks it never will be blue. TBH I describe Tillys colour as 'Slate Grey'

Hi Judy,

Yes that is what we are coming across at the moment.

 thanks

We were told sidney was more blue than brindle and as you can see from the photo at a week old it is hard not to think that is what he was!!!
