Nestling between the hills on the borders of Strabane and Donegal, is beautiful Barron Top Fun Farm. This was the venue last Sunday for the North West Lurcher, Terrier , Whippet and Gun Dog first show of the year . Despite the bad weather, the show was well supported on the day with Lurchers ,Terriers, Whippets and Gun Dogs all lined up in the ring for a great day of showing and racing. Barron Top is one of my favourite places in Northern Ireland. On a sunny summers day the views are breath taking, and ideal for families with small children in good or bad weather to come for a relaxing day out. There is bouncy Castles, pets Corner, and loads more entertainment for the children. George Mc Garrigle ,the owner of Barron Top was on site , and made sure everybody was catered for and looked after. George you are a gentleman. I had a chat with George over a bowl of Irish Stew in his Café on site and it was absolutely delicious.

The show started at 1.00pm, and was well organised by Joe Boggs and Barry Holland. Many thanks to the both of you and your committee for a great day of sportsmanship. A job well done. There were many worthy winners on the day. My husband John was judging the Whippets at the show. With 30 years of showing, hunting , keeping Lurchers, Whippets, and Jack Russells under his belt, he really enjoyed judging this section of the show. John feels by judging , it is his way of giving something back to the Canine world from where he has got so much enjoyment and made so many good friends over the years.

The Overall Show Champion was won by a Lurcher named Tipp and owned by Mark Patterson . A beautiful dog and a very worthy winner. Congratulations Mark and may there be many more wins on your plate. Paul Reynolds went home with a happy smile on his face, as his beautiful Whippet won the overall Whippet Champion and went on to win reserve show champion. Again congratulations Paul. There were many more class winners on the day . Mickey Quinn got a 1st with his Whippet, his son Michael got a 1st with his lurcher. In the racing Michael won the Whippet racing, and the under 23s racing. Mickey and Michael went home with a car load of trophies and some doggy meal. Well done Mickey and Michael. Another happy man was Davy Best who got a 1st with his winning Whippet. A big well done Davy. A well deserved win. Peter Morgans terriers also done well in the show. Peter has recovered well after the digging competition at Mourne, and has lived to fight another day. It is hard Peter to put a good man down. It takes a lot of grit to dig the way you and Dessie Mackin dug last Sunday. Remember every sod that all the diggers dug contributed to helping a little child to lead a normal life. What a reward. There were many more winners in all the classes and racing which I do not have a note off. The judges did a wonderful and difficult job at this show as the standard of dogs in the show rings was very high.

Bluebell was there clicking away with her camera and recording every ones moment of glory. Looking forward to seeing the photographs Bluebell. Deidre it would not be the same there without you. Always up for a bit of craic. We have had many laughs and happy times at the shows and in our private lives over the years .Would not have missed it for the world. Again a big thank you to George Mc Garrigle for the venue, to Barry Holland and Joe Boggs for steering the show to a successful conclusion, Fiona Devlin for organising the racing and Patsy Mc Coy for doing the lure, and all members of the committe for a brilliant show. Looking forward to the next show at Barron Top Donemana on Sunday 17th July 11. See you all next Saturday at Moira, and Sunday at Florence Court, Co Fermanagh
