This is a press release posted on behalf of Bo Bengtson ~ further information will be added when available
The Whippet book
So many people have asked what’s happening with my Whippet book that I thought an update might be useful. Barring a couple of final proofing corrections, the book is ready to be printed and according to the publisher will be in stores here in the U.S. in September or October. Exactly when it will be available in the U.K. I do not know but hopefully not much later.
Why it’s taking so long I have no idea: I’m only familiar with the magazine business where we can turn around a couple of hundred pages in a matter of weeks. Of course book publishing is a different matter, and I understand the book is being printed and bound in Asia, which of course adds considerable shipping time. It still seems like a very long time since I submitted complete manuscript and photographs by July 1st 2009.
I hope the final result will be worth the wait. The publisher is Kennel Club Books, the complete title is “The Whippet — An Authoritative Look at the Breed’s Past Present and Future,” and although technically this is the third edition of the book first published in the U.K. in 1985, then in the U.S. in 1994, it is vastly expanded. The new book will be approx. 350 pages and include about 300 illustrations of Whippets from the past in Great Britain, the U.S. and many other countries. Thanks to Gay Robertson in the U.K. and Lisa Costello in the U.S. there is comprehensive coverage of field activities, and also an in-depth chapter about Whippet health.
I apologize to all those who sent photographs and had to wait so long to get them returned; there is a big pile on my desk which I will get to as soon as the publisher assures me they are irrevocably “done.” Even with the mass of photos they used, there was not space for even close to all the photos I wanted to include.
Right now I have no idea about price, how to purchase the book, etc. but will provide updates later on when more information is available.
