The clip below dates from 1915 and features whippets / whippet racing.

I've only recently discovered the British Pathé website and I love it - spent ages searching dog breeds, horses / ponies and places - but then I like old books / photos etc. :b :)

Old video footage

There's quite a few videos on Pathe. I regularly refer to them on here as they're probably the best examples of what non-ped racing whippets actually are.

If you look through all the whippet racing films and compare them to the likes of the photographs I take today you'll see these dogs haven't really changed physically at all. It's no surprise as these dogs are still carrying out the function they was bred for back then (sprint racing)

There was also some videos posted on the non-ped forum of racing in the North East in the 70's which is also good viewing if your interested in the breed.

Thanks - I'll have a search. Fascinating to see how the breeds have, or have not, changed over the decades.
