This was a lovely ceremony-don't fully understand it all but this is the gist of it-
The Monks put this fantastic Mandala together using fine coloured sand-they started it Monday-
Prayers for healing/peace are said over the creation-
The colours in the Mandala represent diversity in the world.
Once it is finished-period of 5 days... prayers are said again-then it is swept away-destroyed...this symbolises impermanence.Nothing is forever......
On Saturday when the Mandala was swept away at the Priory-each attending received a small bag of the sand-peace/healing to take away with us......
We then followed the Monks through Lancaster down to the Millennium Bridge where prayers were said again.
The remainder of the sand was poured into the River Lune to share peace and health amongst others....
There was a mix of age groups attending- pre-schoolers upwards...and enjoyed by all.
A lovely photographic opportunity for all you enthusiasts out there...
