Is it true what I hear that whippet racing is due to change?   I would like to know if anyone has heard any of the news that seems to be spreading like wildfire about changes to the BWRA commitee at the AGM.   I have had alot of feedback through the grapevine that racing will take on a new look for the coming year.   I have been a racer for many years off and on but felt under the present circumstances that I would rather keep my dogs as pets as this would have been fairer to them.   I would love to breed another litter of pups but I am holding off as I will not breed if I can't race them.   I try to keep up with whats going on in the racing scene through this website and hope someone has more info for me.

Hi liz, I was at the champs on sunday and there were various rumours flying around!!, apparently there are a few people hoping to get on the commitee. all I can say is if they can improve whippet racing then I am 100% behind them!!!, I feel we need to encourage more people into whippet racing, have you heard of the independent whippet racing club? that seems like a good idea, at least if you go to one of their opens you are going to get 2 runs, which I like the sound of (esp if you have travelled a way).

if i find out anything ill let you know

Hi Michelle

Thanks for getting back to me.   I know about the rumours from the champs and it was them that got me going.   I was involved in racing over 10 years ago and came back to it a few years ago and could not believe the state it was in (not much fun,  too much pressure).   Alot of good people have left the sport for one reason or another and the sport certainly needs alot of good promotion to encourage people back into it.   I have heard about the Independent Racing Association and am all for it as long as it is run correctly for the members.    It is the members who count and our opinions must be valued no matter what part of the country we come from.   This sport is suppose to be for fun more than anything else,  to see your dog run up that track (whether they win or lose) was all the pleasure I needed to make it a good day out.   I believe that winning isn't everything just to compete should be enough.   Lets hope things will change for the better and we can all enjoy ourselves once again for the dogs sake more than anything.
