Today I started ringing round a few vets to see who will test Hebe to see if she needs vaccinating this year. What a rigmarole :(

Some of the vets hadn't heard of it, those that had, said they'd never been asked to do it.

So far one vet has rung me back with a price for the taking of blood + sending it off to the lab for testing. Wait for it...........over £170 (w00t) (w00t) If they send it to a different lab where the results may not be as accurate then it's a bargain at £120

The vet also said that even if her results came back as her having a good level of immunity there is no way of guaranteeing that the level will be the same this time next week/month/in 6 months time.

So basically she could be immune today but have no immunity at all in a few months..........I'm just going round in circles here & will probably just go & get the vaccination done.......as I did last year & every year before.

Just don't know what to do now.

i sell human vaccine, if your dog has had the correct course of vaccine it will have life immunological memory in essence should she comes into contact with parvo her antibody response will be spiked regardless, i have never had any of my dogs boostered, for years Hep A vaccine has required a booster now after clinical trials they have changed the license to 20+years

I wouldn't dream of not giving my dog it's booster. I would never be able to forgive myself if they caught something that I could have prevented. Whilst there are risks with any vaccination animal or human I feel the benefits outweigh the risks ten fold.

If your vet is still giving boosters for everything every year I'd talk to them about what sort of vaccines they are using. I thought most vets now used Intervet or other vaccines which are licensed as being effective for three years against Parvo, Distemper and Hepatitis.

The only booster my dogs have done annually is against Leptospirosis, the rest are done every three years.

This is spot=on information and colludes with all the research done in America and by Dr Dodds Your dogs dont need it, in fact you could be doing them harm by yearly challenging their immune system . And in our Breed where inappropriate immune response is well known I would think again

Have a look at the research here....http://designerbostons.homestead.com/misc.html#anchor_13040
