TJ

**UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. TJ would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.

Key Points: Super boy with few faults, home savvy, excellent with all other dogs, young and active.

Please say hi to TJ, a 1 year old saluki lurcher boy rescued off the streets in Ireland. TJ is a beautiful young dog, both inside and out. He has a fabulous brindle coat with big floppy ears and an intelligent, knowing expression. He is about 24” to the shoulder but 90% of this is leg and he runs like the wind. This dog is going to make a very lucky someone extremely happy!

~ Personality ~

Generally: Friendly, affectionate, confident, loving, loyal, sociable, intelligent.

TJ is a super little man, the perfect mix of goof, loyalty, intelligence and friendly confidence. He is super affectionate, truly loves his people, and adores the company of all other dogs. He is very intelligent, always thinking, and would do great at something active like agility. TJ is also very biddable, considering his mix, and gladly takes direction. He could slot right in to a range of home types and has oodles of potential to become whatever kind of dog is desired.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Home savvy, isn’t overly destructive, ok to be left with canine company.

TJ has been in a foster home for 5 weeks, though unfortunately is currently in kennels again. During his stay in his foster home, TJ was a very low maintenance house guest who quickly learned the house rules and was very good considering he’s still rather young. Though he started off stealing food from the table tops, once told no he accepted the boundaries and didn’t try again. He was quiet through the night and slept with his 4 other canine foster brothers and sisters. TJ was still getting the hang of housetraining and used newspapers at night when he couldn’t quite hold it. There was also a teenager and a 10 year old child in his foster home and TJ was just fabulous around them both, very affectionate and cuddly but not overly boisterous.

TJ is a young, playful dog and loves having other likeminded dogs to romp around with. He loves playing chase, though is himself usually uncatchable! He has no issues sharing his personal space and belongings with other dogs, and is a very low-hassle dog as long as he has another dog or two to burn off that youthful energy.

Because TJ has already spent some time in a home, the transition from where he currently is in kennels to his new home shouldn’t take him long at all.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Very sociable, loves other dogs, not yet cat tested.

TJ is absolutely excellent with other dogs regardless of size or temperament. He takes a telling off nicely and is respectful of other dogs that grumble at him. He really really loves playing with doggie friends and has a healthy confidence when making new friends. TJ has not been tested with cats, but could possibly be cat trainable. This will be tested in the near future.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Travels well, suitable to be let offlead, pulls slightly on lead.

TJ absolutely lives for his walks. They are one of the highlights of his day. He travels great in the car and settles very well, though can pull a bit on the lead. This is especially true near the start of the walk when he is still excited, but after he calms down he is better and attentive to your corrections. The best time to lead train him is right after he’s had a mad offlead sprint, as he can listen much better with all that excess energy burned off. TJ had excellent recall with his previous foster parents, and so he will be suitable to be let offlead away from any roads with his new owners after they spend a few weeks building a bond with him and doing some at-home recall work so he recognises their voices. He is very friendly with all other dogs, though might be tempted to chase any small furry he meets.

~ Where Am I? ~

TJ is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

TJ is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. He will be neutered before going to his new home. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering TJ, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering TJ, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.
