TODDY

**UPDATED: AUGUST 2012**

Let us introduce you to the wonderful Toddy! Toddy is an 11 year old greyhound boy who never raced but was being kept by his racing owner up until now. He is a lovely blue boy with white legs and heavy peppering all down his face and chest. In short, he’s gorgeous!

Toddy never showed an interest in all that racing business, but his personality is so lovable that his previous owner has kept him in his racing kennels for 11 years. Kerry Greyhounds UK has offered to find Toddy a loving, warm sofa to retire to.

~ Personality ~

Five minutes is all you need to spend with this boy to fall completely in love with him! Toddy has been treated quite well throughout his 11 years, and it shows in his larger-than-life character. He is not afraid to show his enthusiasm for life, the world and everyone in it! Despite his age, Toddy is very perky and happy and literally wants to say hi to the entire world. He’s just a gorgeous, happy-go-lucky lad who is happy with absolutely any form of affection, kindness and love passed his way.

Toddy is still very spritely and loves his walks. He will greet everyone and everything with a waggy tail, and especially loves meeting the older ladies! He relishes the company of other dogs and will lean into you for a really greyt cuddle.

~ Medical Issues ~

Toddy is a lucky boy who has been decently looked after throughout his life, and is a very healthy chappie. His only complaints were very bad teeth, of which an amazing 15 had to be removed, and a lump on his shoulder which has now also been removed. We are still waiting the results of the biopsy on this lump, but the vet thinks it is a harmless lipoma. Toddy has been given a full health check by a vet and given the all clear. His heart is good and strong, and, though a bit on the porky side, he is very healthy, fit and happy. We hope Toddy still has a good few years left in him, as he definitely doesn’t show any signs of slowing down yet!

~ In the Home ~

Toddy is now in a foster home, where he is experiencing the comforts of a home life for the very first time in his 11 years. Naturally, he is completely blown away by the concept of sofas and duvets, and we think if he didn’t have the ‘call of nature’, he’d never get up again! He is a lovely boy who is easy to have, needs very, very little to be content, and just needs to be loved and made comfortable for his remaining years. Toddy yearns to find the good in life and enjoy himself, so he is a very easy boy to keep happy.

Toddy has been in his foster home for just about a week now, so we will update with his progress soon, unless of course someone can give this boy a forever space on their sofa before then!

~ Other Animals ~

Toddy is ace with other dogs and hasn’t caused any trouble with us. He loves loves loves his other greyhounds, but is also fine with non-hounds including small dogs. He is extremely relaxed and mannerly around other dogs. After the initial hello sniffings, if the other dog ignores him, he’ll run with that and just get on with things too. Considering his age, we feel Toddy shouldn’t be homed with a very young or boisterous dog who will harass him to play, but he would get on splendidly with any other middle aged or older dog of any size, and would be great company to have.

~ Out and About ~

Toddy is just super on the lead and is very attentive to the direction you want to go. He doesn’t pull and is very happy to just plod along, enjoying the scenery. He is polite and gentle when meeting other dogs, though bless him, he can get a bit giddy if he sees a pretty lady during his travels! Toddy never raced and showed no interest in chasing, so he might be suitable to live with a cat. This has not yet been tested, however.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Can I Live? ~

Basically we want a loving, relatively quiet home for Toddy where he can do nothing but relax and enjoy life for his twilight years. As already mentioned, it takes very little to keep this lovely gent happy. Just some food, a warm, soft bed and lots of cuddles and he’s happier than he could ever have imagined. Toddy really enjoys his walks, but obviously isn’t a young hooligan anymore. He would be very happy with a relatively sedate plod twice a day and maybe an offlead time once a week should he decide he likes running after all!

We would very much love to find Toddy his forever sofa as soon as possible so that he can relax, settle, and enjoy himself with the minimum amount of upheaval. If you feel you have the sofa space and the love to give an older gent, please do get in touch.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.
