Does anyone have a template or give me any idea on how to make those inner tube toe supports please ???? ......... Miya's 1 toe keeps dislocating, and as her highlight of her day is her walk it would be great if I could help keep her sound ......Thanks in advance Hannah :D

i know dan has one for chunky, but im not sure where he got it from

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question but I wanted to say how much I love you signature photo  it's magic! They look like they're having such a good time!!

Obviously I cant help either - but Miya only has 1 toe? When did that happen? (w00t) :p

Its her back right outer toe ........ It dislocates itself in the house, let alone on a walk ....... :(

I can sort you out with one Hannah - all thanks to Jane Rankin in the first place though - who first helped us out with them 4/5 years ago

That would be great Darc  ........ Miya would be very appreciative ;)

I dont know what the tube stuff is you've mentioned I've not seen it - but could you tape it to the toe next to it for support while you are out walking? Micropore tape? (Gaz can get some if you havent got any) You've probably tried that already and I'm no use at all. So just give Miya a :huggles: from us.

we used to use the neck off a balloon when taboo did hers, just the right size and right amount of support but gives enough as well.

If anyone wants one of these inner tube supports for toes, let me know and I will send some.

They work very well, my Happy Days (dislocated toe on right hind) has run with an inner tube on for years.

Many years ago when I was told about this type of support, I went into my local cycle shop and asked for an inner tube. "What size do you require?" the man asked. "To fit a 26 pound whippet," I replied - and then wondered why the chap backed away from me with a very odd look on his face!

LOL .....Thanks Jane ......I appreciated your message on our phone  .........as did Miya :D .......

Also  Mark, I remember seeing Taboo and was it Sam with the balloon neck  ...... I think Miya would appreciate a nice pink number

Hello everyone I've been reading your comments, but I can't do anything for my big ron, Most of you must of read k9, ron has got double discalation on his 2 middle toes on left back leg, he done it at the champ's, he has got to go back to vet's monday to see him and we have to decide on what the best option is. We have been so lucky on every-one e-mailing us and phoning us but we just have to wait till monday

Bunny Girl ran with a inner tube toe support for a whole season when she was four years old. Each one would last for about three race meetings before I felt it had begun to stretch too much. I still have some in my first aid kit now. She did her front left outer toe.

I would not be tempted to rush a dog back racing after a dislocation though, even if they are at their peak. Fozzy did hers in July 2001 (the foot and mouth year) just before the opens began. This was the year after she had won the top ten. I decided to think long term and not race her again that year. It was worth it though, because it never went again. And she went on to win the veteran top ten and many more opens.

I have heard one greyhound vet say six weeks is long enough to recover from a dislocation but, these are pets first and foremost after all. The priority should be good quality of life for the dog. Then secondly, a long and enjoyable racing career if possible.

Another factor to consider is the rock hard ground at the moment. This will make it more likely for a dog to re-dislocate a susceptible toe. I would also not run bends again but, I'm sure some dogs have recovered and gone on to run bends successfully again.

Good luck with the inner tube supports, they do work.

Sorry for butting in,but could the toe not be cemented, like they do with the greyhound's over here who have the same problem. ...Billy...PS. Those grehound pups are looking realy good. And i found good top kennel homes for them,so hopefully they will get the chance to be summit.

Thanks for the advice and info :D ........Miya won't be racing again, and this is just to keep her short life as full as possible ........Janes kindly experimenting with inner tubes as we speak  ......... I never thought about having it cemented Billy, and I'm glad the pups are sorted ........I hope they do well for you (well with breeding like that they should be fliers ;) )......
