TOMMY
Tommy is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who has retired from the race track. He is now looking for a soft sofa to retire to. He has a prettily marked white coat with black patches and spots, and he is sure to be a real stunner once he puts on a bit of condition.
Tommy is a lovely, super affectionate chap who adores people and likes to give a big toothy smile when he greets you! He is quite an active boy and does like his walks, but after his daily exercise the ‘greyhound’ kicks in and he likes to go for a long snooze.
Tommy has been no problem at all in our kennels, and tends to get on with everybody. He is well behaved with the other greyhounds, though has not yet been tested yet with smaller dogs. This can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! Tommy is not cat friendly.
Dear Tommy has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience.
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
Tommy is currently being kennelled in Co. Cork, Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Tommy, please email me on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
