Having had quite bad pain and sensitivity in a tooth for months, my dentist finally found the cause yesterday - there is a hairline fracture caused by a large amalgum filling (apparently the metal expands and contracts which causes the remaining enamel to break).
My dentist didn't seem to think there was much she could do, other than replace the filling with an amalgum that doesn't expand. Having looked into it, it seems the usual thing is to make a crown.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm worried as all my molars have horribly large amalgum fillings in, thanks to the very overzealous dentist I had in my teens
